Project Description:
The Arts Promenade & Coffee Structure project at Irvine Valley College (IVC) transforms the area between the Arts Village and the Performing Arts Center (PAC) into a vibrant, student-centered outdoor environment that fosters creativity, collaboration, and well-being.
Key upgrade initiatives include:
- Large outdoor working spaces with dedicated areas for drawing, sculpting, and painting.
- Areas for meditation, public performance viewing, and collaborative study.
- A new promenade to enhance the pedestrian circulation through the Arts Village.
- A redefined back-of-house are at the Performing Arts Center (PAC) to improve set movement, access, and deliveries.
- Sustainable landscaping with drought-tolerant plants, turf removal, and water-efficient irrigation.
- A 500-square-foot permanent coffee structure with shaded seating for up to 50 patrons.
The coffee structure offers a menu including espresso drinks, drip coffee, warmed sandwiches, salads, and pastries. The space serves as a welcoming hub for students, faculty, and campus visitors.
By prioritizing sustainability, accessibility, and student-focused design, the Arts Promenade supports IVC’s mission to create inclusive, flexible outdoor environments that promotes wellness, learning, and community.
The Arts Promenade is now evolving into a signature campus feature that celebrates Irvine’s agricultural heritage through design. The board-formed concrete walls will be clad with a series of solid and perforated panels inspired by a 1938 aerial of the Irvine Ranch. This “Deconstructed Packing House” mural concept transforms the walls into a living canvas that connects the Promenade to IVC’s identity, the Arts Village, and the broader campus.
