Adam Malnove Memorial Psi Beta Endowed Scholarship

Adam Malnove was president of the Psi Beta Chapter at IVC from 2008– 09. He set an example for others through his leadership, research, service, and scholarship. Adam passed away unexpectedly in 2017. The Adam Malnove Memorial Award is how our Psi Beta chapter acknowledges IVC's most outstanding psychology student(s) each year.

AESL Program Scholarship

Students who enroll in AESL classes are often recent immigrants to the United States who are learning English in order to create lives for themselves in their new country. This scholarship was created to support them while they are in the program and encourage them to continue their education once they become fluent enough to do so.

Alfonso Mendoza Memorial Scholarship

Phillip George established this scholarship in memory of his friend Alfonso Mendoza. Phillip and Alfonso attended IVC together and were good friends. Tragically, Alfonso died in a motorcycle accident while still a student at IVC. While Alfonso was not able to complete his education and secure a job in IT, Phillip hopes that this scholarship will enable other students to achieve that goal.

Alvin M. Lang Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a full- time student majoring in business marketing with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Amon Pandher Memorial Scholarship

During Amon Pandher's time as a scholar of History at IVC, she made a tremendous and long-lasting impact on her peers, professors, advisors, and mentors. She spoke fondly of IVC and cherished her time there, as it nurtured her passions and fostered her growth as a student. In honor of Amon's passion for the study of history, this scholarship was created by Amon's friends and family for the purpose of providing support to History students whose academic pursuits center justice, resilience, and meaningful change in the face of difficult circumstances. While Amon is no longer with us, she left a tremendous impact on the IVC community, and her loved ones believe this scholarship is an everlasting reminder of her legacy, passion, and spirit.

ASIVC Osher Endowed Scholarship

In May 2008, the Bernard Osher Foundation made a historic gift of $25 million to the California Community College system to provide matching funds to encourage community colleges to create endowed scholarships for their students. ASIVC leaders saw this as a unique opportunity to create a scholarship that would support IVC students in perpetuity.

Assistance League of Irvine Certificate Program

Since 1993, the Assistance League of Irvine has been dedicated to advancing education and strengthening the community. In 2022, the organization expanded its impact by establishing a scholarship program to support students who are pursuing certificate programs which provide job skills and enhance employability.

Assistance League of Irvine Certificate Program Scholarship

This scholarship is a philanthropic program designed by Assistance League of Irvine to provide scholarship funds to students enrolled in certificate programs.

Assistance League of Irvine Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a student with financial need who has a minimum GPA of 2.5 and is taking nine units or more. Preference may be given to students who are one-parent families, re-entry students, or Guardian Scholars.

Associated Geology Student of IVC Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was founded many years ago by IVC science faculty who wanted to encourage students to take geology classes. By focusing their studies on this major, students would gain a deeper understanding of the science that deals with the earth's physical structure and substance, its history, and the processes that act on it.

Associated Students of Irvine Valley College (ASIVC) Scholarships

ASIVC is proud of the diversity of Irvine Valley College. Therefore, they provide a large variety of scholarships to support students for academic achievement, overcoming financial barriers, participation in college programs and so much more. They are proud to support their peers along their educational journeys.

AT&T Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship provides financial assistance to a qualified student with a minimum GPA of 3.0 who intends to transfer to a four-year program.

Award for STEM Excellence - ASTEME

Roopa and Prabodh Mathur are both lifelong engineers who understand the dedication and grit required to excel in STEM careers. To pass along their passion for this field, they created the Award for STEM Excellence (ASTEME) to support students who are dedicated to lifelong learning and mission-driven innovation. As an IVC professor herself, Roopa Mathur is grateful to make this award available to hardworking students pursuing STEM majors.

Barbara and Christopher Riegle Endowed Scholarship

This endowed scholarship is awarded to an IVC student pursuing a nursing career. Preference is given to a second-year student or a student transferring to a nursing program.

Beep Colclough Endowed Scholarship

Beep Colclough spent her entire career working at IVC. During her time with the college, she played a large role in students' academic journeys. Her husband John heard and saw how much these experiences meant to Beep. After retiring, they decided that in order to continue this work in perpetuity, they would establish an endowed scholarship.

Betts/Stone Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Susan and Bill Drummy to honor our mothers. Vada Betts (mother of ten) and Peggy Stone (mother of four) were lifelong learners. Peggy earned her bachelor’s degree when she was a young woman, and Vada earned hers in her 50s. Both women were widowed at a young age. With all the challenges of being single parents, they never failed to support, love and encourage their children (and their children's many friends). They would both be so happy to know this scholarship, for years to come, will help students attain their goals.

Bob Deegan Endowed Scholarship

Counselors play a vital role in the educational experience of IVC students. Bob Deegan was hired in the early years of the college to lead the department and invested his time in creating a helpful, caring and highly productive department. While Bob’s number one priority was the students, he was also known to invest in the success of his colleagues. This scholarship was created to honor the incredible impact Bob had on the college.

Brendan Jundanian Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Brendan Jundanian was a founding faculty member at IVC. His intense curiosity about the world fueled his obsession with international affairs and diplomacy and his love of travel and foreign languages. This scholarship, established in his memory, ensures that his passion for global citizenship will endure.

Brooke Bui Scholarship

Dr. Brooke Bui joined IVC as a faculty member in 2010. During the time she spent in the English department and Student Success Center, and later as Dean of Liberal Arts, her admiration for IVC students and deep appreciation of a liberal arts education strengthened. She created this scholarship to support students along their educational journeys.

California Retired Teachers Association, Harbor Beach Division 77 Scholarship

In 1995, the California Retired Teachers Association – Harbor Beach Division #77 made their first scholarship gift to invest in a future teacher. They hope that through this scholarship, they will encourage and support students working successfully toward a career in public education.

Cambridge West Partnership, LLC Scholarship

In 2022, Irvine Valley College was selected as one of 20 California community colleges to receive scholarship funds from Cambridge West Partnership, LLC. Their generous support will be invested in the future of IVC students.

Carol and Bob Warsaw Family Endowed Scholarship

Carol and Bob Warsaw started this scholarship to support students who were struggling against all odds to achieve their educational goals. Carol has been a member of Charter 100 for a number of years. She saw the wonderful successes the scholarship recipients achieved and was inspired to expand that support with a newly endowed scholarship. Together, Carol and Bob understand the impact and value of higher education and they want to reduce the financial barrier that is often the reason students do not pursue their academic dreams.

Charter 100 Bessie Smith Burch Endowed Scholarship

Fawn Tanriverdi, a longtime IVC employee, started this scholarship in memory of her grandmother, Bessie Smith Burch, to honor the love she poured into raising her children, Don and Wyoma, and for the active role Bessie played in Fawn’s childhood. However, the inspiration and funding came from Bessie herself. During the Great Depression, Bessie moved from her birthplace of Manchester, Iowa, to Orange County, California, where she raised her family and was incredibly proud of the fact that her daughter and granddaughter both had educational opportunities she did not. Throughout these years, Bessie collected coins. They were passed from Bessie to Wyoma and ultimately to Fawn. When Fawn came upon the can of coins, she knew they should be used to establish a scholarship to provide others with what Bessie longed for: an opportunity to go to college.

Charter 100 Countess Pease Jeffries Endowed Scholarship

Countess Pease Jeffries was a very special and very accomplished member of Charter 100. Amongst her many achievements, Countess earned her BS at Howard University, her MBA at NYU, and finally her JD at Harvard University. She was generous and lived her life to the fullest. She relished the early days of Charter 100's support of IVC's CARE students. The members of Charter 100 established this endowment in her memory as a fitting tribute to the exceptional life she lived.

Charter 100 Dee Sampson Endowed Scholarship

For 25 years, Dee Sampson generously volunteered to serve on the Charter 100 board. In 2024, Dee decided that it was time to pass the torch and stepped down. To honor her dedication to Charter 100’s success, the board created an endowed scholarship in her honor.

Charter 100 Dina and Aron Kagan Endowed Scholarship

Dina and Aron Kagan were the parents of Charter 100 member Cecilia Goodman. While she was growing up, Cecilia’s parents stressed the importance of education. She established this endowment in memory of her parents and to carry on the work of investing in education.

Charter 100 Dr. Ellie T Soltani Endowed Scholarship

Dr. Parisa Soltani established this scholarship in memory of her mother, Dr. Ellie T. Soltani. Throughout her life, Parisa’s mother taught her the lesson that education was one of the best ways to help and support personal goals. By establishing this scholarship, Parisa hopes to pass this lesson on to the single parents and foster youth who receive the scholarship.

Charter 100 Fran and Jack Goodman Endowed Scholarship

Fran and Jack Goodman, beloved in-laws of Charter 100 member Cecilia Goodman, were unwavering champions of education and its power to shape brighter futures. They believed that learning opens doors, fuels possibility, and transforms lives. In tribute to their extraordinary legacy, Cecilia established this endowment in their memory—honoring their values and joyfully carrying forward their lifelong commitment to investing in education, opportunity, and the promise of generations to come.

Charter 100 Gilmour Family Endowed Scholarship

Pamela Gilmour joined Charter 100 in 2017 and has been a very active member. Through her involvement, she’s had the opportunity to meet many scholarship recipients and learn their stories. Their determination, resilience, and achievements inspired her to start this scholarship in honor of her family.

Charter 100 Jana Hackett Endowed Scholarship

When longtime friend Jana Hackett passed away, her friends and family established this endowed scholarship as a memorial to her incredible life.

Charter 100 Kathryn and John Marconi Endowed Scholarship

A number of years ago, Kathy Marconi taught in a program called School Age Mothers. It was this experience that drew Kathy to be part of Charter 100 as she had a deep understanding of the challenges that students who are also single parents face. Additionally, she knows what it is like to be raised by a single parent as her father died when she was eight and her mother was left to raise Kathy and her three siblings on her own. The connection to Charter 100 and their scholarships at IVC was strengthened after a conversation with a recipient who spent time in foster care growing up. With the support of Charter 100, Kathy and John started this scholarship to support single parents and foster youth as they work to achieve their academic dreams and because they know that IVC is a wonderful school.

Charter 100 Kathy Murphy Endowed Scholarship

Betty Everett’s sister, Kathy, was a remarkable electrical engineer whose promising life was tragically cut short by breast cancer. At Fermilab in Illinois, she was one of the first women hired in the electrical engineering unit, ultimately working her way up to leading her own team of engineers (primarily men) working on some of the most complex computing projects at the lab. In her 50s, Kathy retired from Fermilab and earned her teaching credential. She dedicated her time to tutoring students and athletes at the University of Oregon and teaching adults with learning disabilities to earn their general education degrees. Kathy would have loved the chance to support our scholars and contribute to their success.

Charter 100 Marilyn Foreman Endowed Scholarship

Marilyn Foreman was a longtime member of Charter 100 and a champion for women, both in education and business. Completing only one year of college as an art major in the 1940s, she overcame incredible odds, eventually taking over the family medical manufacturing business at age 58 and making it profitable. When she passed away at 73, the women of Charter 100 contributed to start this scholarship that bears her name.

Charter 100 Mary Turner Endowed Scholarship

Mary Turner was a longtime Charter 100 member who knew the scholarships the club provided to single parents made a significant impact on their educational journeys and ultimately their lives. When Mary passed away, the members of Charter 100 started an endowed scholarship to honor her memory and her commitment to IVC students.

Charter 100 Meredith Stanton Endowed Scholarship

With support from the members of Charter 100, Kathleen Buchanan started this endowed scholarship in honor of her mother, Meredith Stanton, a woman who made a profound impact on her life. By creating this scholarship, she hopes Meredith’s legacy.

Charter 100 Osher Endowed Scholarship

Charter 100 of Orange County has supported IVC students since 1996. They firmly believe that education is a pathway to opportunity, empowerment and independence and have made the support of IVC students their primary mission.

Charter 100 Pamela Louise Bennett Endowed Scholarship

Thanks to the values that her parents passed down to their children, Pam and her brothers developed a deep appreciation of the value of an education. They were raised knowing that they were expected to go to college and pay for it on their own. Pam will tell you that it is the best investment she’s ever encountered which was the inspiration behind this scholarship.

Charter 100 Ray and Gladys Williams Endowed Scholarship

Ray and Gladys Williams were children of hard-working farmers in Michigan. While Gladys pursued nursing, becoming a registered nurse, Ray built a career in the banking world. They were very involved in their community and church and encouraged their four children to do the same. They would definitely encourage the recipients of this award to work hard and be proud of who they are and what they have accomplished in life. Their daughter, Johanna Brody, is so proud to name this endowment in their honor.

Helping women and girls reach their potential is something that Sandi Mitchell strongly believes in. She demonstrated her passion by being a member of Charter 100 and contributing to organizations that work toward this goal.

Charter 100 Sue and Ralph Stern and Family Endowed Scholarship

Over the years, Sue and Ralph Stern have demonstrated a deep commitment to investing in students through a variety of meaningful efforts. This scholarship was created to support IVC students and serve as another important way to expand the Sterns’ long-standing dedication to student success.

Charter 100 Wally and Pearl Turner Endowed Scholarship

Betty Everett’s parents instilled the values and importance of education. Pearl grew up on a turkey farm and was fortunate to have an aunt who supported her through college. In her 40s, she returned to college to earn her teaching credential. She taught high school students with learning disabilities in the early days of discovering and understanding these neurological disorders. She taught at the same high school for over 20 years. Wally grew up in the Ozarks, where college was not an option. He had a vision and worked his way through college at the University of Missouri School of Journalism. He went on to build an exciting and storied career in journalism. They would both be proud of the accomplishments of our scholars and thrilled to have the opportunity to participate in their successes.

Chemistry Department Scholarship

Having witnessed the powerful role scholarships play in shaping students’ educational journeys, an anonymous donor established this scholarship to champion those pursuing the study of chemistry. Through this gift and additional support from the chemistry faculty, the contributors seek to remove barriers, inspire perseverance, and empower students to continue exploring the field, supporting their curiosity, ambition, and potential to make meaningful contributions through science.

Chris and Kaye McDonald Scholarship

Chris and Kaye McDonald know the impact that community colleges have on their students firsthand as they started their journeys into higher education at community colleges. The interactions they had with their professors literally changed their professional goals, which ultimately led them to join the South Orange County Community College family in 2012 and 2013 respectively. Since then, they have dedicated their careers to supporting students in our District.

Chris L.C. Lee Creativity and Academic Scholarship

The Chris L.C. Lee Creativity and Academic Scholarship was established by Dr. Cathleen Greiner and members of Exchange Club of Irvine, and supported by Chris Lee's parents. It is to honor Chris's life and his passion for music. Chris Lee was an alumnus of IVC and a former testing proctor in the campus testing center.

City of Irvine Educational Partnership Fund Scholarship

The City of Irvine strongly believes in education and supporting their students throughout their educational careers. They contribute money annually to Irvine Valley College to use for scholarships for incoming freshmen students who graduated from the Irvine Unified School District.

Craig and Sheila Grossman Forensic Award

Craig and Sheila Grossman are woven into the intricate tapestry of IVC. As one of the original faculty members on campus, Craig built the Communications program at the college. Through his years of teaching, he helped change students’ lives through their experiences with Speech and Debate. Sheila also became an integral part of the program when she joined Craig in the department. This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding student in the Forensics program

Crossing the Finish Line Scholarship

As students pursue their educational goals at IVC, they often pour their hearts and souls into their studies, embracing every opportunity to learn, grow and develop their skills. Some students get very close to the end only to realize that they are suddenly faced with a financial barrier and cannot afford to take the last few classes to earn their degree. These students may feel like they have come so far, only to be stopped short of the finish line. This is where the scholarship comes in, providing a lifeline to students in need, helping them to overcome their financial challenges and cross the finish line.

CSM Edward Harrel, USA, (Ret.) and Mieko Harrel Endowed Scholarship

Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Edward Harrel, USA, (Ret.) and Mieko I. Harrel were dedicated and generous advocates for the people and values of our Irvine community. Mieko “Miki” Harrel was a very active Irvine volunteer during her 37 years of calling Irvine home after moving around the world in support of Edward’s military career. Miki’s life was touched by a number of IVC students both as a student herself and through her community involvement. Through her will, she established this scholarship to give back to the college that had a positive impact on their lives and is such an important part of our local community. The scholarship is awarded to a veteran, or child/grandchild of a veteran, to honor Edward, whose career spanned 33 years in the military; he honorably served in both the U.S. Navy and Army.

Cyndy McElyea Endowed Scholarship

Cyndy McElyea was a beloved member of the classified staff at IVC. In addition to doing her job well, she went out of her way to nurture and care for our students. When she passed away, at the young age of 38, the campus community came together to endow a scholarship to ensure that Cyndy’s passion for supporting students would go on in perpetuity.

Dawn Pickering Celebration Endowed Scholarship

Dawn Pickering was born and raised in Orange County. After graduating from Santa Ana High School, she continued her education at UCI where she earned a bachelor’s degree in dance. She spent a large part of her adult life traveling the world as a professional dancer. Back in the states, she was part of the Solid Gold Las Vegas show. Dawn joined the IVC Family in January 2013 and immediately embraced her work and all that IVC stood for. Her career at IVC lasted nearly 10 years and was cut short when Dawn passed away after a four-year battle with cancer in March of 2023. Dawn is remembered as an individual who was incredibly organized and brought a special touch to everything she did. Her passion for her job, attention to detail and love for IVC students was evident to everyone who interacted with her. Her colleagues, family and friends created this scholarship as a legacy for the woman who brought light, laughter, and celebrations to IVC.

Delgado Family International Scholarship

Christina Delgado has devoted her career to supporting international students to achieve their educational goals. Their dedication to their studies in pursuit of an American degree is inspiring. International students have limited access to financial aid in the U.S. and it is hoped this award will help a deserving IVC student continue their studies. This scholarship is established in memory of Christina’s wonderful mother, Sharon Delgado, who shared a love of learning about cultures and valued the importance of education.

Dolores Huerta Endowed Scholarship

Frank Marmolejo, retired IVC faculty member, understands the unique challenges that first-generation Latinx students face. He started this scholarship as a way to support and encourage students from similar backgrounds to pursue their academic dreams.

Dr. Donald L. & Sandra F. Rickner Endowed Scholarship

Don and Sandy Rickner helped found and grow IVC through its first nearly twenty years, from 1982 until 2000. They were and are dedicated to the mission of IVC including the crucial role scholarship support plays in the lives and success of IVC students. This was an integral part of their time at IVC as Don was the founding executive director of the IVC Foundation.

Dr. Sanjai Gupta Math Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship recognizes the tremendous impact Dr. Sanjai Gupta is making for IVC STEM students in mathematics. Many students would not have advanced so far and so well without his talent to blend excellent instruction, a little humor, classroom civility, and encouragement. This scholarship is awarded to a promising STEM student with financial need.

Dr. Shungnak L. and Ruth L. Kim Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to liberal arts majors with a minimum GPA of 3.0 who are involved with or are in support of Korean American culture or programs.

Dr. Stephen Rochford Endowed Music Scholarship

This scholarship was created to honor Dr. Stephen Rochford’s lifelong impact on the IVC Music Department. During the 27 years that Dr. Rochford taught at IVC, he interacted with hundreds of music students. Most developed a lifelong passion for music, some went on to have careers as professional musicians, and others followed in his footsteps as music teachers. Not only did he impact a large number of students, but he also knew that to build and maintain the quality of the program he would need to secure funds from outside sources and, through this, became an excellent fundraiser. Through his efforts, and those who followed in his footsteps, the department now has the largest endowment on campus.

Dr. Xiaoqing Chen and Dr. Gary Rybold Endowment for Excellence in Communication

Dr. Gary Rybold taught and coached in the Communication Studies Department at IVC for 30 years. During his tenure, he coached the IVC Speech and Debate team to 18 national championships. Dr. Xiaoqing Chen was a debate coach in the People’s Republic of China when Dr. Rybold had a sabbatical to teach in Xi’an. They fell in love and were married in 2001. This U.S./China connection extended to educational opportunities with over 130 IVC students and faculty participating in debate activities in China. Both Gary and Xiaoqing did their doctoral research in China.

Drs. William and Barbara Jay District Trustees Endowed Scholarship

William Jay, Ed.D. spent most of his educational career at SOCCCD. He held many administrative offices including president of Saddleback College, vice chancellor of human resources, and math faculty member. After retiring, he was a trustee for ten years before his passing. His wife Barbara Jay, D.D.S., was selected and then elected to take his place as a trustee. This scholarship was started to carry on their work of supporting community college students.

Dwight Collins Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Dwight Collins enjoyed a fulfilling career teaching computer science at IVC. He loved teaching and supporting IVC students along their educational journeys. As one of the faculty who joined the college in the early 1980s, he also helped set the cornerstones which enabled the college to grow into what it is today.

Edison International STEM Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to IVC students who are STEM majors with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Edward Woo Wong Memorial Scholarship

Edward Woo Wong lived a life of integrity, strong work ethic, and faithful generosity, with a fervent desire to serve the community with humility. This scholarship is awarded to a student who exemplifies these characteristics and is seeking a future in business.

Employee Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Bill and Pam Hewitt and Beep Colclough dedicated many years of their professional lives working at Irvine Valley College. Through their time at the college, they formed bonds with their colleagues that made them more like family. As their IVC family aged, Bill, Pam, Beep and Beep’s husband John wanted to create an opportunity to memorialize their dear colleagues who passed away. With this in mind, they established this scholarship which will be awarded annually in memory of those we lost over the past year.

Eric Harris Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was founded by Administration of Justice/XTE students and the parents of Eric Harris. The selected student must be a member of both XTE (Chi Tau Epsilon) and the Criminal Justice Association (Lambda Alpha Epsilon) and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Fawn Tanriverdi Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Fawn’s colleagues, family, and friends to celebrate her retirement from IVC. Fawn dedicated her career to helping low-income IVC students in their quest for an education. This scholarship will ensure that the legacy of her work goes on in perpetuity.

Fumiko Ishii Nadeshiko Endowed Scholarship

Professor Fumiko Ishii started teaching Japanese in 1985 when IVC’s first Japanese class was introduced. From a humble beginning, starting with the IVC satellite classes held at the El Toro Air Base, the program grew exponentially due partly to her dedication and commitment. Now the Japanese program is one of the major language programs at IVC. When the Northeastern region of Japan was struck by a magnitude 9.0 earthquake followed by a devastating tsunami on March 11, 2011, Professor Ishii organized a myriad of fundraising events and donated $20,000 to its victims. With the success of the fundraising efforts, she decided to launch the Nadeshiko Scholarship in 2012. Since then, the Nadeshiko Scholarship has been awarded to two or three students per year to help the awardees continue their education and play an active role in global society.

Gabriel Mascardo Memorial Scholarship

The Marquez-Mascardo Family Foundation established this scholarship to honor Gabriel Mascardo, whose journey from humble beginnings to a successful engineering career was made possible through education. Known for his resilience, determination, and passion for problem-solving, he exemplified perseverance and innovation. This scholarship supports students in STEM fields who demonstrate ambition, grit, and a commitment to excellence. It aims to inspire future leaders to overcome challenges and create meaningful impact.

George Buchsman Brody Memorial Endowed Scholarship

George’s life is a testament to resilience, curiosity, and the power of education. A child Holocaust survivor who journeyed from Hungary to Guatemala and ultimately to the United States, he refused to let borders, setbacks, or hardship stop him from becoming an engineer. Through determination, he built a remarkable career in healthcare plastics, earned four patents, completed a master’s degree while working, and found his true calling in engineering innovation. Johanna hopes that recipients of this scholarship see George’s story as proof that education can open doors anywhere—and that engineering can change both lives and the world.

George Edward Smith Memorial Scholarship Endowment

This scholarship was established in memory of George Edward Smith by his friends and family. It was the first endowed scholarship at IVC and therefore not only provides support to students in perpetuity, but also set an example for others who were interested in creating endowments.

Grace Everett Fulkerson Endowed Scholarship

Grace Everett Fulkerson was Betty Everett's mother-in-law. Her life ended much too early. She was a great supporter of women—smart, determined, independent women. She would have loved the Charter 100 scholars supported by this scholarship, which was sponsored and named in her honor by Betty.

Grace Kim Everett Endowed Scholarship

Following a 27-year career as a teacher in the Newport Mesa Unified School District, Grace Kim Everett turned to the art of glass fusing. She had learned this craft from several outstanding glass artists. Working out of her garage studio in Irvine, California, she created many interesting pieces and displayed and sold them at local craft fairs. In addition to her glasswork, she was a wife, mom, good friend, and neighbor, as well as an accomplished motorcyclist. She passed away in 2017.

Hewitt Presidential EOPS Award

As a former foster youth and high school dropout, Bill discovered community college in his early twenties when he was given the opportunity to leave his job and return to school. Although his path began with challenges, he was ultimately granted one final chance when the college president awarded him a scholarship, an act that forever changed the course of his life. Recognizing the profound impact of that opportunity, Bill and his wife, Pam, established this award to offer other students the same life changing chance he once received.

ICARE Scholarship

Caren Ware, 12-time National Track & Field Champion and 2-time World Champion, has a passion for inspiring active living by offering fun fitness for all abilities and bodies. Her company, Caren Ware Events, coordinates two races at IVC annually. Members of the college’s Circle K Club volunteer and they are instrumental in ensuring that the events go off without a hitch. This scholarship is to give back to a student who shows they CARE through their volunteering.

Ikemi-Murakami Music Endowed Scholarship

Kristine Murakami worked for decades assisting students and colleagues as a member of the classified staff in the IVC Library. She loved music and was a friend of the IVC Music Department. Her mother was a pianist and lifelong piano teacher. Kristine and her sister were surrounded by music while growing up and were encouraged to have music in their lives. In memory of and in honor of their mother, they founded the Ikemi-Murakami Music Scholarship for IVC instrumental and/or keyboard music majors who have demonstrated musical excellence on their instrument and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Iman Khosrowpour Endowed Scholarship

Iman Khosrowpour was an adjunct professor of applied violin and viola and a broad variety of music classes, as well as conductor of the IVC Symphony Orchestra for ten years. His teaching challenged and inspired students to become the best musicians possible and to recognize the value of music to the community. This scholarship was established by Iman’s family, friends, and colleagues in honor of the incredible impact he had on his students.

Irvine Forward Foundation Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Wall Scholarship

The Irvine Forward Foundation established this scholarship in honor of longtime Irvine Chamber member Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Wall. Prior to his passing, Lt. Col. Wall was an active member of the association who strongly believed in the transformative power of education and the impact of scholarships. This scholarship was created to carry forward his commitment and continue the work he so deeply valued.

Coordinated and supported by the Irvine Chamber of Commerce, this scholarship is awarded to a veteran or child of a veteran with a minimum GPA of 2.5 who has financial need and is pursuing a career path in science, business or law enforcement at IVC.

It’s Never Too Late to Become What You Might Have Been Scholarship

When Sonya Mitchell Winder attended IVC, she was a single mother who had survived a number of challenging events in her life. Determined to create more opportunities for herself, she was committed to earning her associate degree. Receiving scholarships is one of the things that motivated her to continue. She established this scholarship to provide support in the hopes that it will have the same impact on the recipients.

IVC Administrators and Managers Scholarship

The managers at IVC interact with students on a daily basis outside of the classroom. They hear about the successes and failures of their academic careers. Through this, they understand that many of our students face large financial barriers which often stop them from continuing their education. With that in mind, this group created a scholarship to ensure that a student who is continuing their education at IVC with a minimum GPA of 3.5 has the financial resources needed to continue their education.

IVC Classified Senate Endowed Scholarship

Classified professionals proudly come together every year to organize fundraising activities in order to provide funds to help students. Recipients are selected by the Classified Senate Scholarship Committee and are awarded to a full-time continuing student who is self-supporting, demonstrates community or college involvement, and has a minimum GPA of 3.0.

IVC Guidance and Counseling Excellence in Motion Endowed Scholarship and Resort

This scholarship is awarded to students who are transferring to a four-year university. Students must qualify for exemption from out-of-state tuition, according to the regulations of California state law AB 540, and must have completed 30 transferable units with a minimum GPA of 3.0 at IVC.

IVC Transfer Scholarship

Working in IVC’s Transfer Center, Tuan Nguyen has seen firsthand the challenges that students in the Forgotten Middle face. Their families earn too much for the student to qualify for financial aid, but not enough to pay for college. He established this scholarship to help students in the Forgotten Middle to continue their education.

This award is given to deserving men's soccer players who are transferring to a four-year college.

Jeanne Egasse Endowed Scholarship

Jeanne Egasse taught Spanish at IVC for 40 years. During her tenure, she often met students with incredible potential who could not continue to pursue their academic dreams due to financial difficulty. Upon her retirement, with the support of her friends and family, Jeanne established an endowed scholarship to support students along their educational journeys.

Jenny Richards Memorial Endowed Vocal Music Scholarship

Jenny Richards attended IVC as a music major. She completed her associate of arts degree, studying voice and singing in the IVC Masterworks Chorale. Jenny was well known in the Orange County musical community as a singer/ composer/guitarist who performed regularly in the area. Her father, Rusty Richards, was one of the original Sons of the Pioneers with Roy Rogers in the 1950s. Cancer took Jenny's life but her many contributions to student life at IVC will always be remembered, along with her beautiful voice and her great smile. The endowed scholarship in her name is a discipline- specific scholarship for IVC voice music majors who have demonstrated musical excellence in their voice studies and performance as well as in their music courses.

Jesus Marquez Memorial Scholarship

The Marquez-Mascardo Family Foundation established this scholarship to honor Jesus Marquez’s legacy of public service and dedication to a more equitable society. It reflects his deep belief that education and ethical leadership are essential to building sustainable, opportunity-rich communities. By supporting future business leaders, the scholarship encourages innovation, integrity, and a commitment to long-term societal impact. Through this investment, the foundation hopes to inspire recipients to carry forward his vision of a just and sustainable future.

John Schneiderman Endowed Guitar Scholarship

John Schneiderman taught applied guitar in the district, mostly at IVC, for more than 30 years. He is a critically acclaimed virtuoso of plucked instruments, specializing in the performance practice and repertoire of eighteenth-century lutes and nineteenth-century guitars. He encouraged his students to undertake their work with discipline and serious effort, regardless of the individual professions they may have chosen. He is an inspiration to his students and a wonderful colleague who will be remembered through this discipline- specific scholarship for current or incoming first-year IVC Instrumental Music majors, with a declared emphasis in guitar, who have demonstrated musical excellence in their performance.

Joseph Hewitt Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Bill and Pam Hewitt established this scholarship in memory of Bill’s younger brother, Joseph Hewitt. They chose to award this scholarship to a business or human services major because of the commitment Joseph made to helping others in his pursuit of a career in business.

JSK Endowed Scholarship

Beyond his 10 years of formal college education in the biological sciences, Dr. Jefferey Kaufmann recognizes the impactful role of those kindergarten through 12th grade teachers who instilled in him an understanding and appreciation of the natural world. Without the dedication and passion of our K-12 teachers, his college education would have been far more challenging and possibly unreachable. Therefore, this scholarship has been established in support of our students who are pursuing careers in primary and secondary education. This endowment is dedicated to Professor Kaufmann’s very first teachers, and his parents Margaret and John Kaufmann.

Julie Martinez Endowed Scholarship

For many years, Julie Martinez dedicated her work at IVC to supporting re-entry students, providing guidance and encouragement that positively impacted hundreds of educational journeys. After retiring, Julie knew she wanted her commitment to these students to continue. Through this scholarship, she carries forward her legacy by offering ongoing support and opportunity to re-entry students for years to come.

Kari Tucker and Jerry Rudmann Psychology Department Student Research Award Endowment

Kari Tucker and Jerry Rudmann have both dedicated their careers to teaching psychology. They started this award to acknowledge students who are active in the Psychology Department. Students must engage in psychology-related research that culminates in an APA-formatted paper, which will be or has been presented at a local or regional conference.

Katherine Brady Clarinet Endowment

After playing clarinet in the IVC Wind Symphony for over 10 years, Katherine Brady started this scholarship to support and encourage her fellow musicians. Her passion for music and the IVC experience is one that she hopes will continue to be appreciated by students.

Kathy V. and Merle E. Memorial Scholarship

While working at IVC, Brenda Borron saw the impact that scholarships have on their recipients. Upon retiring, she established this scholarship in memory of her parents, who taught her the importance of obtaining an education Brenda believes that IVC is a place of second chances.

Kaye and Jane Mach Retiree Endowed Scholarship

Kaye Mach was one of the original faculty members at IVC. When Kaye and his wife Jane created their will, they included the IVC Foundation. The bequest was realized in 2023 after both Kaye and Jane passed away. While they did not place any restrictions on the gift, the IVC Foundation Board of Governors voted to create a scholarship that would honor those who retired from IVC over the past year.

Kid's Read! Scholarship

Kids Read! is an organization dedicated to getting books into the hands of as many children in need as possible. Having no employees, Kids Read! runs completely on the generosity of our amazing volunteers. This scholarship honors the incredible number of hours that IVC students help with cleaning, sorting, labeling, boxing, and delivering books.

Kirk C. Gorrie Memorial Endowed Scholarship

In memory of former English Department faculty member Kirk C. Gorrie, this scholarship is for those who take specific classes in English at IVC. This award was established by Kirk's parents, Clayton and Trula Gorrie, and his siblings. It honors Kirk’s decade of teaching writing at IVC, and assists students who have completed (or are near completion of) the writing sequence.

The IVC Languages faculty care deeply about their students' language learning journeys. This scholarship is yet another reflection of their genuine dedication and commitment to student success.

Lawrence and Barbara Vanni Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Lisa Applebee, a Charter 100 member in order to create a legacy in the names of her parents. Lisa’s father was the eldest son of Italian immigrants. After Barbara and Lawrence had five children, Lawrence decided that he wanted to become a lawyer. He spent his days working as a salesman, went to school at night and studied on the weekends. Barbara supported him in this journey and essentially raised the children alone. After finishing law school and passing the bar, he went on to practice family and business law for many years in Pasadena. He was often noted for his fine character and would be very honored to know that the academic dreams of others will be supported through this scholarship.

LGBTQ+ Scholars Scholarship

The Lindley family are proud allies to the LGBTQ+ community. To celebrate this amazing community, this scholarship was created to address the financial barriers that are present in the pursuit of a higher education.

Lillian V. Chandos Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Established in memory of Lillian V. Chandos to assist a student pursuing a pre-med or nursing career, and who plans to work with elderly patients.

Lloyd and Lauretta Dyer Family Foundation Endowed Scholarship

Joan Woodard worked for the IVC Foundation in the 1990s. During that time, she met countless students who were working toward achieving their academic dreams but struggling financially. She knew that scholarships made a difference and established this scholarship in memory of her loving parents, Lloyd and Lauretta Dyer, to help ease the challenges that single parents face as they travel through their educational journeys.

Lyle and Ethel Davis Osher Endowed Scholarship

For many reasons, neither Lyle nor Ethel had the opportunity to go to college. However, their 11 children were raised knowing that college was not an option but mandatory. They understood the power of education and wanted what was best for their children. Proudly, all 11 children had the chance for a college degree. Upon her parents' death, with the help of Charter 100, Julie decided she wanted to honor them with an endowment that would continue to provide scholarships in perpetuity. Hopefully the individuals who receive their scholarship will remember Lyle and Ethel and experience the hope they had for their own children. Lyle and Ethel would be proud.

Marie de la Palme Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was created to honor and memorialize former dance faculty member Marie de la Palme, who founded IVC’s Performing Dance Ensemble. In 2012, “Madame de la Palme,” as she was called by her students, was chosen as Full-time Teacher of the Year. She was known as a wonderful colleague and a generous and radiant presence in the classroom, on the stage, and in the world. She is survived by her husband, son and daughter, and her legions of students and colleagues.

Mark L. Petersen Tuba Endowed Scholarship

Mark Petersen started this scholarship with the goal of leaving a legacy at IVC, the college where he spent most of his career. His hope is that this scholarship encourages tuba players to continue playing the instrument and specifically to join the music program at IVC. The inspiration behind the scholarship was that Mark received two scholarships.

Matt Wolken is the department chair of Integrated Design, Engineering and Automation. He is an inspirational engineering faculty member whose classes encourage students to explore and learn through creative, hands-on projects. This scholarship was created by community members who were impressed with the impact he has on his students.

MESA Scholarship

The MESA (Math, Engineering, Science Achievement) Scholarship is awarded to highly motivated students pursuing STEM fields, with a special focus on supporting students from underrepresented backgrounds. Applicants must be part of the MESA program and demonstrate strong academic achievement, leadership skills, and a commitment to community engagement.

MESA Summer Research

The MESA Program at Irvine Valley College propels first generation, economically disadvantaged students toward success in calculus based STEM majors. Undergraduate research transforms theory into practice, builds confidence, and amplifies graduate school or industry prospects. The MESA Research Award lifts financial barriers for IVC MESA students who earn summer research positions, freeing them to focus fully on discovery.

Mikel Bistany Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Mikel Bistany was a physical education instructor at IVC and a champion for IVC students with disabilities. In addition to teaching an adapted physical education class, he created and facilitated weekend tournaments for wheelchair tennis and basketball. He is remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and for being extraordinarily student-focused. Friends, family, and colleagues contributed funds over a number of years to ensure that Mikel’s support for students with disabilities went on in perpetuity.

Miranda Family Scholarship

As the Vice President for Instruction, Rick Miranda dedicates his days to ensuring that IVC provides the best educational opportunities for our students. The Miranda family is made up of artists, musicians, writers, scientists, and educators who understand the commitment students make to creating their future. They understand that students can always use a little extra support and for students to know that someone believes in them. By providing this scholarship, the family hopes that the recipient is compelled to keep moving forward in their academic and professional goals.

Nancy Lent Petersen Logan Osher Endowed Scholarship

Nancy Lent Petersen Logan was a lovely soul, a single mom, who worked in the inner city of Santa Ana for many years. She was lucky to be well-educated when many women were not afforded that opportunity. Majoring in early childhood development, she always believed education was a privilege, yet completely attainable to those who worked at it. She would have been very touched by the gift of this endowment, established by her family.

Nick Tucker Psychology Department Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to students who demonstrate a commitment to education and community. This scholarship is a tribute to Nick Tucker, late husband of IVC psychology professor Kari Tucker, and is presented in Nick’s memory to a re-entry student or a student who is among the first in their family to attend college.

This scholarship was established by Nicole’s family, friends, classmates, mentors, and teachers to honor her positive spirit and beautiful soul. They hope to honor Nicole’s legacy of giving joy and a commitment to making meaningful and purposeful connections each and every day.

Growing up, Elissa and Andrew Oransky were surrounded by their families' passion for and generations-long dedication to education. They started this scholarship to turn the passion into a legacy and to acknowledge Elissa's love for IVC.

Oritz Family Scholarship

Desiree Ortiz is a longtime IVC employee who is also an alumna of the college. She started her higher ed journey before starting a family and continued after she became a mother. She is the first person in her immediate family to complete her bachelor’s degree. Her hope is for this scholarship to inspire others to fulfill their educational dreams regardless of the barriers they face.

Orozco Mahaney “ABLE” Scholarship

This scholarship holds deep meaning for the Orozco Mahaney family. Dedicated to honoring and supporting the neurodivergent student community at IVC, this scholarship celebrates Angela Orozco Mahaney’s 30-year legacy at the college. Given by her family, this award carries forward her commitment to “pay it forward” — a reflection of the continued blessings her son has received within the extraordinary world of autism. The family recognizes the strength, encouragement, and perseverance required to help loved ones thrive in inclusive environments. Through this scholarship, the family aims to empower others to be ABLE — to achieve, believe, learn, and excel — in every aspect of their educational journey.

Osher Endowed Scholarships

In 2008, the Bernard Osher Foundation made the largest gift ever to the California community college system: $50 million, with a challenge to California’s community college foundations to match the gift. The Osher scholarships are for students who have received the California College Promise Grant (formerly Board of Governors Fee Waiver) and have completed at least 24 units of college-level coursework.

Pam and Bill Hewitt Endowed Scholarship

Pam and Bill Hewitt dedicated their careers and their hearts to Irvine Valley College. Bill has often been heard saying, “I failed retirement,” as he continued to work part-time for years after officially retiring. Many would argue that they both failed as their passion for the college and dedication to supporting IVC students continues through this scholarship and the many others they started.

Paralegal Scholarship

This scholarship assists students with good GPAs in achieving their educational goals. Paralegals are important assets to the legal services community and this scholarship was created in the hope of ensuring that financial hardship will not prevent good students from reaching their highest potential.

Physics Scholarship

Inspired by the transformative role scholarships can play in shaping a student’s academic journey, an anonymous donor, together with the continuing support of physics faculty, established this scholarship to encourage and support students pursuing physics. Through this collective commitment, the scholarship seeks to lessen barriers, nurture curiosity and perseverance, and help empower students to continue their studies with confidence as they prepare to make meaningful contributions to the scientific community.

Plotkin Endowed Music Scholarship

The Peter and Masha Plotkin Foundation has been engaged in philanthropy to support the visual and performing arts since 1995. Their support for IVC has a long history as well. An endowed scholarship to support incoming music majors was made possible by a gift from the Plotkin Foundation beginning in 2024. Raquel Merced Foundation Scholarship

Raquel Merced was a loving mother and grandmother who worked tirelessly to take care of her family. Raquel was born in Puerto Rico and never finished elementary school in order to work to help her family. After her husband’s death, she raised four children as a single mom and on a small pension. She purchased a piece of farmland in Puerto Rico, and built a humble family home. Despite all of the demands, she never missed an opportunity to help her community and never turned away a person who needed help. Her wise choices allowed her family to always have a safe home to come to and a place where the Merced family could always gather. Raquel’s legacy of generosity to others and in service to her community will be memorialized through the recipient of this scholarship.

Risk Management Association Scholarship

The Orange County Chapter of Risk Management Association (RMA) is dedicated to the advancement of sound risk management practices in business and especially in banking. The local OC Chapter is heavily involved in supporting and exposing business students to the important principles of risk management in banking in our county. Our hope is that scholarship winning students returning to IVC will be interested in learning more about career opportunities in banking.

During his life, Robert Melendez Senior dedicated himself to all with open arms, no judgment, and the biggest smile. This scholarship was developed to honor his memory and as a way to continue his legacy of helping others. This scholarship awards either a continuing or transferring student who is actively participating as a member of the Irvine Valley College Circle K Club.

Tammy Livingstone For the Love of Molly Cakes Scholarship

This scholarship was created in honor of IVC alumna and her beloved mother (Aline E. Dodson) whose wisdom and encouragement continually provided strength to Tammy while pursuing her professional career goals and higher educational endeavors. It’s a “shout out” to all the Molly Cakes out there who give unconditional love, and strength to their son/daughter every day beyond measure.

Te'Veannah Smith Advocacy and Social Justice Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship honors the memory of former student and ASIVC President Te'veannah "Te" Smith. Te not only worked incredibly hard to overcome enormous systemic barriers herself, but also worked to draw attention to systemic barriers and to advocate for other struggling students. This scholarship recognizes a student who shares Te's passion for making the world a better place for everyone, especially folks who struggle against social barriers to success.

Tonya Reed Gardner Memorial Endowed Music Scholarship

Tonya Reed Gardner was a music major at IVC when she passed away in an automobile accident in April 1993. Because Tonya was a very caring and giving person, the Gardner family, along with the IVC Music Department established an endowed scholarship in her name. Each year, this endowment provides the opportunity for Tonya to be remembered with the awarding of a scholarship to IVC music majors who have demonstrated musical excellence in their instrument or voice studies and performance, as well as in their music courses.

Tracy D. Terrell Scholarship Endowment

After earning his Ph.D. from the University of Texas, Dr. Terrell joined UCI as a professor, where he pursued groundbreaking research in Caribbean Spanish linguistics. He is best known as a pioneer of the Natural Approach, a method that transformed language teaching worldwide. Through collaborations on influential textbooks such as Dos Mundos and Tu mundo—used at IVC for many years—his legacy continues, especially through his mentee and coauthor Jeanne Egasse, founder of IVC’s language program. Though his life was cut short in 1992, Dr. Terrell’s visionary contributions live on through those he inspired and the scholarship that honors his work.

Tricia Stewart Scholarship

Tricia Stewart loved to travel and to share information with anyone she met. She took as many trips as she could and never hesitated to bring what she learned back home to everyone. Traveling was about new experiences and exploring new cultures. Each new country and city brought new pictures and sounds to share with others. The world was her oyster. Phillip George established this scholarship in her memory and hopes that the recipient will carry on her love for adventures.

Trustee Inmon Guardian Endowed Scholarship

As a teacher, Trustee Inmon understands the importance of reducing barriers that students face in achieving their educational goals. This scholarship supports students who have spent time in the foster care system and have faced unique and challenging circumstances. She wants them to know that someone believes in their dreams and is committed to supporting them.

Trustee Inmon Veteran Endowed Scholarship

During her tenure as a Trustee of the South Orange County Community College District, Carolyn Inmon developed a deep understanding of the array of challenges faced by students and how each population had unique situations. She established this scholarship as a way to honor her family members who served in the United States Military and support IVC’s students who are veterans.

Vega Family Scholarship

Greg Vega, Dean of Enrollment Services at Irvine Valley College, is a proud product of the California Community College system. He and his wife Andrea, a community college faculty member, are strong believers in the opportunities community colleges provide to their students. This scholarship represents their commitment to giving back and ensuring that students are supported throughout their academic journey in pursuit of their goals and dreams.

Veterans Scholarship

IVC is proud to have an active and large population of veteran students. This scholarship was established by contributors who wanted to honor and thank those who served our country.

Volunteers of Hoag Hospital Irvine Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a student with financial need who has a minimum GPA of 3.0 and is enrolled in a course of study in the health or ancillary professions.

Women Warriors Leadership Scholarship

As a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and an educator who conducted research on student veterans for her dissertation, Martha McDonald knows that, while the GI Bill is extremely helpful in funding student veterans’ educations, the funds are not enough to live on. In order to minimize the financial burden of attending college, she created a scholarship to support students who are veterans. She recognizes that they transitioned from being warriors in the military to being student warriors.

Wyoma Hamilton Osher Endowed Scholarship

Wyoma Hamilton was the mother of Fawn Tanriverdi, longtime EOPS/CARE/CalWORKs counselor at IVC. Wyoma was a single mom who worked her entire adult life in service to people with disabilities, intimately knowing their struggles because she too was challenged by lifelong rheumatoid arthritis. She had a strong sense of ethics and valued education as a means toward upward mobility. She would be very grateful to the friends, colleagues, and members of Charter 100 who helped to make this endowment possible.
