Application Process

The Honors Program reviews applications on a rolling basis using a holistic review process.

  1. Apply to IVC and complete all pre-registration (matriculation) steps.
  2. Within 2 business days of submitting your IVC application, you will receive your IVC student ID and email address, which you will use to log in to MySite to complete pre-registration (matriculation) steps: guided-self-placement, orientation, advisement, and first semester plan. All steps must be completed before submitting the Honors application.
  3. Access the Honors Program application.  You will need your IVC student log-in information. If you don’t know your log-in information, please contact the Student Help Desk.
  4. Submit the following materials with the application:
  • Transcripts: Upload an unofficial copy of your high school transcript demonstrating an unweighted academic GPA of 3.25 or better. Be sure that the transcript shows your name, school, and all grades earned between 9th grade through 12th grade fall or spring semester (whatever is more recent). Students who have completed any college coursework must also submit unofficial transcripts from all colleges attended.
    • Students graduating early from high school should submit (1) their most recent high school transcript and (2) a copy of their high school certificate of proficiency or a letter from a high school principal or counselor confirming early graduation from high school.
  • Portfolio: Submit three items of academic or creative work that demonstrate academic potential. Student work should be clearly labeled with your name and may include (but are not limited to) writing samples, artwork, and multimedia presentations. Please do not submit group work or application essays you’ve submitted to other colleges. Documents should be uploaded as PDFs; do not submit Google document links. • Personal Essay: Upload a single PDF that includes your responses to the following questions:
    (1) What are you looking for from your college experience? How will the Honors Program help you achieve your goals? (250+ words)
    (2) How many semesters do you anticipate being part of the Honors Program before transferring? (1 sentence)
    (3) Honors coursework is the cornerstone of students’ experience in the program. Honors students must complete 2 Honors courses within 2 semesters of admission to the program, at least 9 units of Honors coursework by the end of their final fall semester at IVC, and at least 15 units of Honors coursework before transferring. After reviewing the list of IVC Honors courses, identify at least 5 Honors classes you would be interested in taking to fulfill the 15-unit requirement and explain why you are interested in each one. Please Note:

  • First-year students wanting priority registration beginning in their first fall semester must apply to IVC and complete ALL pre-registration (matriculation) steps before submitting their Honors Program application by April 1. Because it may take up to 2 business days to receive your IVC student ID and email address after applying to IVC, we suggest that students apply well in advance of the April 1 deadline.
  • Priority registration for first-year students will begin in fall semester.
  • If you do not meet the eligibility requirements with your high school transcript, you may apply to the program after you have earned a 3.25 GPA in 12 or more units of college coursework. You may enroll in Honors classes before joining the Honors Program, and any Honors classes taken for a letter grade prior to program admission will be counted towards the Honors course requirement.
