The Irvine Valley College Department of Drafting Technology & Engineering prides itself on employing faculty members with university engineering degrees as well as practical private sector experience. Our instructors have backgrounds in sensor design, high tolerance manufacturing, biomedical devices, civil engineering, electrical circuit design, and quality control. We are dedicated to providing each student with the tools required to succeed in university programs and the technical workforce.
The Irvine Valley College Engineering Laboratory is an advanced learning space with a wide array of cutting-edge tools found in the fields of design, manufacturing, inspection, and quality control. Students enrolled in engineering and drafting classes gain direct access to materials and equipment which foster hands-on learning at all stages of the engineering design process.
The IVC Engineering and Drafting Department offers state-of-the-art computer based instruction using software platforms found throughout the engineering and architectural industries. Key programs available to students include SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, Fusion360, Revit, AutoCAD Civil3D, Infraworks, Matlab, Pix4D, Pasco SparkVue, Verisurf Measure, Microsoft Office, and several innovative cloud-based applications such as Circuits.io and OnShape.
Metrology, which is the scientific study of measurement, is a critical part of the engineering world. However, many college and university students enter the technical workforce without proper training in this valuable field. The IVC Engineering and Drafting Department is committed to integrating measurement concepts, techniques, and tools into a significant number of our courses.
IVC provides high level instruction in the field of automation. The Engineering and Drafting Department supports several outstanding campus projects related to robotics and autonomous navigation, including the NASA Prandtl-M project and the award-winning IVC Robotics Club. With support from key faculty advisors and access to several advanced pieces of equipment, our students can explore the rapidly developing world of automation, and also participate in paid internships resulting from research on campus.
