IVC Hosts Orange County Philippine Independence Day Celebration

IVC hosted Orange County’s Philippine Independence Day Celebration on Saturday, June 17, commemorating the declaration of Philippine Independence from Spain in 1898. The event was organized by Filipino Influential Leaders and Mentors (FILAM), Filipino American Chamber of Commerce of Orange County (FACCOC), Filipino-American Lawyers of Orange County (FLOC), and IVC’s Equitable Learning Experience Valuing Achievement, Transfer and Empowering Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (ELEVATE AAPI).

When it comes to the county he has always called home, Mateo Sanchez is proud to be Orange through and through. But he always envisioned his future in a shade of blue.

“I wanted to go into law enforcement at a very young age,” reflects the Irvine Valley College student. “I knew after high school that was what I wanted to do.”

Free Drop-In Tutoring

The Math Center offers in-person services in room B 363.

To use the Math Center's tutoring services, students must enroll in the appropriate section of TU 301 on MySite. TU 301 is a free, zero-unit, non-credit course that allows students to attend and utilize the Math Center.

Allyson Najera Named 2023 Hites Scholar

IVC student Allyson Najera is one of 15 Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) members selected as a 2023 Hites Scholar and will receive a $10,000 scholarship for baccalaureate studies.

The Hites Transfer Scholarship is awarded to PTK members who are preparing to transfer to a bachelor’s degree-granting college or university. Winners were selected from among 2,700 applicants nationwide for their outstanding academic achievement and rigor, leadership accomplishments, and engagement in college and community activities.

IVC Students Make History at Honors Symposium Hosted by Stanford University

On May 6, a group of 17 IVC Honors students presented their research at the Bay Honors Symposium hosted by the Bay Honors Consortium at Stanford University.

Ria Singh Thakur’s project, “The Unhinged Woman: An Intersectional Feminist Evaluation of Postfeminist Anti-heroine Fiction and Online Gender Performance,” was named a finalist for both awards by the symposium, the Katharine Award and the Heslet Scholar Award.

Material Success: IVC Alum Takes Costuming Talents to Apple TV

Whether it’s on the stage or on-screen, Spencer Keane’s costume-designing abilities can be described as out of this world.

The Irvine Valley College grad is plying his costuming creativity on the new space-centered Apple TV show, ‘For All Mankind,’ as a self-proclaimed “Spacesuit Technician.”

“That’s the cool job title,” admits Keane. “We’re technically labeled as specialty costumers."
