Director of Events
Responsibilities: Presides over the Events Committee consisting of two (2) senators and two (2) ambassadors, tasked with the planning and execution of ASIVC events for the academic year.
Alyssa Lertsuntivit
Candidate Statement:
As Director of Events, I would channel the joy I’ve always felt in planning into a meaningful effort: well-executed events relevant to the student population, and memorable. I’m excited to work with my peers to make successful events happen.
Bio Statement:
From helping others organize items to coordinating schedules for an event, I’ve always enjoyed meticulously working towards something. I tailor plans to suit each events’ goals, but would never forget its purpose, bringing a practical outlook to ground the often-chaotic process.
David Diao
Candidate Statement:
I am running for Director of Events because I believe the strength of the Irvine Valley College experience is defined by the community we build outside the classroom, and I have the operational mindset required to bring that community to life. While many candidates have great ideas for events, I am specifically drawn to the structural leadership this role requires. What excites me most is the opportunity to preside over the Events Committee. Managing a focused team of two senators and two ambassadors means this role isn't just about party planning; it’s about project management, delegation, and empowering fellow student leaders to execute a shared vision. If elected, my goal is to approach ASIVC events with a dual focus: High-Impact Engagement: Designing inclusive, campus-wide events that genuinely resonate with our diverse student body—from transfer-focused students to those experiencing college for the first time. Operational Excellence: Ensuring our events are meticulously planned, well-marketed, and fiscally responsible, maximizing the return on the student funds we are trusted to manage.
Bio Statement:
The Vision: No more boring campus events.
The Promise: Flawless execution, zero cringe, and an Irvine Valley College campus culture that actually makes you want to stick around after class. Hey IVC! I’m David, and I’m running to be your next ASIVC Director of Events because I believe our campus should be exactly as electric as the students who go here. You are grinding hard in your classes (I see those heavy Econ and Accounting schedules!), and you deserve a college experience that gives you a real chance to connect, recharge, and celebrate.
Here is what I am bringing to the table: Events You Actually Care About: I'm talking high-voltage campus festivals, local food truck pop-ups, career-networking nights that don't feel awkward, and low-key chill lounges with actual good food during midterms.
Flawless Execution: Great ideas die without great planning. I thrive on the logistics. I will manage the timelines, delegate to our committee, and handle the heavy lifting so that every ASIVC event is a seamless, premium experience for you.
Your Voice, Amplified: The best events are built around what you want, not just what the administration thinks is cool. I am here to listen, adapt, and deliver exactly what the student body is asking for. Let’s upgrade our campus culture together. Vote David Diao for Director of Events, and let's make this academic year unforgettable!
Emma (Celine) Francisco
Candidate Statement:
Throughout the 2025-2026 academic school year, I served as an events committee senator where I was able to help pitch ideas for activities throughout campus and be a part of the process to make these events come to life. I was also able to volunteer and support such events, and I really enjoyed connecting with my peers and working with other ASIVC officers and advisors. For this upcoming academic school year, I want to take it one step further by running for Director of Events, where I will be able to oversee and continuously implement events to help elevate the social life here on campus by listening to what students want to see on campus and advocating for the student body.
Bio Statement:
Hey Lasers! My name is Celine Francisco, and this academic school year I was able to serve as one of your ASIVC senators. For this next upcoming school year, I am running for the position of Director of Events! During my time as senator, I served time on the Events Committee, where I was able to help organize fun and informational events such as Welcome Week, Game Night, and our upcoming Destress Week. In addition to these events I have also volunteered to help out during other events such as Earth Week's clothing drive and Earth Day, Grad Fest, and Movie Night! Throughout these experiences, I learned quickly how much time and effort goes into events that students want to attend, which ranges from initial planning, working with other committees, outreach, marketing, and listening to general student feedback and needs in order to make these events not just fun, but also engaging and inclusive! By leading this process as Director of Events, my main priority would be to build upon what we already have but also bringing new ideas to the table by listening directly to what students want to see on campus, whether it is social, cultural, or informational events. I also plan for every event to be inclusive, so I also want to actively seek out feedback during the planning of these events. I will strive and continue to advocate to make our campus a place where there is something that every student looks forward to and feels included and welcome to participate!
Jawad Khadra

Events are a powerful tool to gather students and build community, and my experience in planning events, particularly with clubs, enables me to design and cater them with a focus on social harmony. I want to be your director of events to make that possible at the institutional level, and work closely with faculty to make your voice heard in event planning and execution. I also aim to invite clubs to work with us and IVC administration, to bring more student-centric design to campus events and activities without taking away from broad engagement.
Bio Statement:
I want to be your director of events to help plan and prepare campus-wide events at the institutional level. I’ve previously worked on events for clubs and also participated in the events committee within ASIVC last semester, enabling me with the knowledge of event logistics and planning considerations. With me as your Director of events, I want to collect students feedback and opinion on the kinds of events IVC could hold. I also aim to work more closely with clubs and student organizations to bring a more student-centric design to clubs wherever possible, as done with Arab Student Union, and the first-ever Arab American Heritage Month celebration. I’m honored to say I helped to contribute to that event, and I want to extend that opportunity to other students as well by becoming the bridge between students and faculty.

Through my experience serving ASIVC as Justice, I have developed a strong foundation in student leadership, outreach, event promotion, and cross-committee collaboration. Sonya Sadjadi
Bio Statement:
Hey I'm Sonya. My goal is to make it easier for community college students to learn where to access information, get connected to the resources available on their campus, and find their way around without feeling overwhelmed. After being enrolled as a student at IVC for 3 years, I came to realize that many of the challenges I faced were common struggles for others as well. Knowing where to go for information, what classes to take, applying for financial aid, how you should spend your time productively on campus. It can be difficult when you are navigating these experiences for the first time. Learning your way around takes time and can be challenging. I want to help make it easier for everyone adjusting to college and work towards creating a stronger sense of community and connection on our campus.
Syeda (Fatima) Hassan

Hi everyone! my name is Fatima Hassan, and I am running for Director of sustainability. I have had the privilege of being in ASIVC for a year as the chair of the sustainability committee. I planned and executed a giant earth week event that had a clothing drive, a sustainable art day, an earth day resource fair and a movie night. Students were able to participate, mix their creativity with activism and enjoy while celebrating the planet and learning about local earth related organizations. I worked closely with other committees and made sure all ASIVC events were as environmentally friendly as they could be. I worked with administration and made sure student voices for sustainability were being prioritized every chance I got. I worked with administration to create a student walk through of the construction so we can see the plants being planted and how they benefit the environment and the ecosystem. In the future I plan on continuing my work, while also creating more events that are centered around mass production and mass consumption. I would also like to bridge the gap between administration, student government and student run clubs related to sustainability. By working together, we can create more meaningful impact across campus and in our community.

I want to run for this position because I genuinely care about making sure underrepresented students at IVC have access to what they need to succeed, not just academically but socially and personally too. It gets overwhelming, that's why I want to use my years of leadership experience to connect students, ranging from STEM to humanities, with real opportunities, advocate for better club funding, and strengthen transfer resources so every student has a clear path forward.
With your vote, you'll have a senator who shows up for you every single time, listening to all your concerns and fighting until that change is made!

Internal Affairs: Mahba Ahmad
Candidate Statement:
I am running for Senator of Internal Affairs because I have been closely involved in the internal work of ASIVC and want to continue strengthening the systems that allow our student government to operate effectively. Through my experience in student leadership, I have developed a strong understanding of how important organization, communication, and collaboration are in ensuring that ASIVC can successfully serve the student body. For the 2026 to 2027 year, I hope to continue improving the efficiency of our internal processes while supporting initiatives that directly benefit students, such as expanding free printing across campus and increasing the visibility of the many opportunities available at Irvine Valley College so more students can access the resources and experiences our campus offers.
Bio Statement:
I am a Public Health major at Irvine Valley College who is passionate about strengthening student voice, collaboration, and engagement across campus. During my time at IVC, I have been deeply involved in student government and institutional leadership. As Student Body President, I have chaired the General Legislative Meeting & Executive Board meetings, while also leading several key committees within ASIVC, including the Elections Committee, the Free Printing for Students Committee, and the Bylaws and Restructuring Committee. Through these roles, I have helped lead initiatives that improve student resources, strengthen governance structures, and ensure that student government operates effectively and transparently.
As a candidate for Senator of Internal Affairs, I hope to continue building on this experience by supporting the internal structure and collaboration of ASIVC. My studies in public health have shaped the way I approach leadership by emphasizing community wellbeing, systems thinking, and equitable access to resources. I believe that when student government is organized, accountable, and internally strong, it is better equipped to advocate for the needs and ideas of the students it represents, and I remain committed to continuing that work at Irvine Valley College.

I am running for Senator of Internal Affairs because I will establish a smooth transition for this brand-new role and ensure ASIVC functions seamlessly behind the scenes. I am committed to providing the checks and balances that are necessary to hold the legislative body accountable and ensure that every officer is performing their duties to the fullest. During this transitional period for ASIVC, the VP and President need a reliable, direct partner who will uphold our governing standards. I will ensure our internal operations run efficiently so the rest of ASIVC can focus entirely on serving the student body.
Bio Statement:
Hey my name is Sam and I am running to be one of the first Senators of Internal Affairs. I will make sure ASIVC is running at its fullest potential and that everyone is locked in on their work. My focus is keeping officers accountable and fixing out-of-date bylaws so the student body's voice always comes first. Vote for me, and I'll make sure the whole system doesn't collapse.
Internal Affairs: Steven Ortiz
Candidate Statement:
The more organizations I join, the more problems I realize of students being unheard or decisions that more of the community wants to be a part of and this is something that can be helped internally. Being in the room where decisions are being made is what is upmost importance to my community, and external affairs would be the perfect position for fixing things straight from the root.
Bio Statement:
Hello! My name is Steven Ortiz and I am a current 1st year Political Science Major here at IVC. I have been fortunate enough to be highly involved in student spaces this year, from Mock Trial to student organizing all the way to the Honors Program. Throughout my time here currently, I have seen a common thread amongst students here, and it is the genuine interests students have and the enthusiasm to help them strive. If I were to be a senator of Internal Affairs, I would be as transparent and engaging to serve all students best interests, and thats exactly what I want to do. I hope to earn your support!
Sustainability: Aleeza Janjua
Candidate Statement:
I want to run for Senator of Sustainability because I am a biology major and I have learned how closely the environment is tied to our health. That made me more aware of how campus habits affect students and the environment. If elected, I would focus on realistic changes like improving recycling systems so they are easier to follow, reducing single-use plastics at events, and promoting refill stations around campus. I would also help organize simple sustainability events and encourage student participation in waste reduction efforts. I want to bring student feedback into discussions and make sure sustainability efforts are actually practical and used by students. Overall, I want to help make small but meaningful improvements that make IVC more environmentally responsible.
Bio Statement:
I am a first-year pre-med biology major. I am passionate about sustainability and making campus practices more efficient and student-friendly. I am responsible, organized, and motivated to take initiative in improving everyday habits like waste reduction and resource use on campus. I also value student input and want to help create practical changes that increase awareness and participation in sustainability efforts at IVC.
Sustainability: Olle Thoennes
Candidate Statement:
About 6 months ago I completed my first research project which focused on particulate matter emitted from bus exhaust. As an engineer, I found it really compelling and I immediately knew that I wanted to start implementing environmentally friendly ideas into my work. One of my friends attended a "recycle talk" at UCI, where they mentioned that 80% of recyclables don't get recycled. I did some more research and found that 21% gets recycled, while 80% never even gets collected or ends up in the landfills. I found this to be very shocking, and I think as a senator, combined with my beliefs of sustainability, that I can do way more by implementing these same talks throughout our IVC campus. I think another huge issue is the amount of unnecessary waste that occurs on and off campus. In California alone, around 1.2 billion tons of fast fashion clothing gets thrown out every single year. On top of that 5-6 million tons of food gets wasted as well. I want to see these issues fixed, and by introducing clothing drives and food composting bins, IVC could be doing so much more to manage waste and recycling. I also have the largest collection of dead batteries in my house, and I visited campus to see if there were any placed I could dispose of it but there wasn't. So by implementing a new e-waste program, I think it would solve my problem along with many others.
Bio Statement:
Only 21% of recyclable material actually gets recycled; the rest never gets captured or ends up in a landfill/incinerator. The biggest problem that leads to this statistic is the lack of communication and access to recycling options within homes. As your next ASIVC senator of sustainability, I will directly address this issue by introducing new recycling awareness talks and workshops. I will provide new opportunities for students and families to recycle, such as clothing drives and the construction of compost bins. Personally, I have never known where to throw away my spent batteries, so I will also introduce an electronics waste program to the campus. I am a mechanical engineering major at heart, and after I completed my first research on the harms of bus exhaust pollution, it became my mission to implement sustainability and remain environmentally conscious throughout all of my engineering work. If you want to see a healthier IVC, a campus that remains at the forefront of waste management and recycling, vote Olle Thoennes for ASIVC senator of sustainability.
Sustainability: Sophia Sze Wen Tan
Candidate Statement:
There is so much overconsumption and overproduction of goods all over the world when most people have more than they need. We take this world for granted and forget that the small things we do like contributing to fast fashion or keeping a car on longer than we need, ultimately have long lasting impacts to earth, our home. What's worse is that a lot of people don't realize this. I want to help spread awareness about these things in a fun and inclusive way to take small steps towards more sustainable practices.
Bio Statement:
Hi Lasers! My name is Sophia, and I’m a Malaysian first-year sociology major at IVC running for ASIVC Senator of Sustainability. Being sustainable and making a change in the environment can seem daunting. I want to change that by making sustainability not only doable but also engaging for students through the committee. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of joining service trips in Malaysia and Indonesia, where I volunteered in orphanages, refugee learning centers, and villages teaching English, spending time with kids, and helping rebuild structures. Those experiences showed me how people can thrive with limited resources and made me realize how much more sustainable we can be with what we already have. I want to bring that perspective into everything I do in the sustainability committee. I strive to create a space where every student feels included. As an international student who moved to California in July 2025, I understand what it’s like to feel shy or lost in a new environment, especially in a community college. This is why being approachable is so important to me and is embodied in everything I do. Together, we can build a more sustainable, inclusive, and intentional campus community. Vote Sophia for Senator of Sustainability!
