What is Student Equity

The Student Equity Plan is a three-year plan required by Education Code (EDC) 78222 as a condition of receiving Student Equity and Achievement Program funding. Plans are required to examine local disaggregated student success data, identify 1-3 student groups upon which to focus support measures, and commit to key strategies to close current equity gaps. The plan was created through a collaborative process between a cross-section of faculty, classified professionals, students, and administrators. Opportunity to provide input for plan priorities and key strategies was shared within multiple participatory governance groups at each college ensuring that the plan reflected the values and intentions of the campus community.

Student Equity funding was established in the 2014-15 Budget Act to “… ensure equal educational opportunities and to promote student success for all students, regardless of race, gender, age, disability, or economic circumstances.” The Student Equity and Achievement Program (SEAP) is one of the instruments Irvine Valley College uses to advance these goals.
