Joseph Hewitt, the younger and only brother of Professor Bill Hewitt, passed away on October 8, 2014 in Walla Walla, WA after an extended illness. Joe had been actively involved as a community college student, pursuing his degree in Business Administration. He went on to become a Department Manager at Macy's in Tri-Cities, WA. He is survived by his son Sy, his grandson Tanner, and his wife Phyllis Hewitt.
Longtime IVC colleague and friend Kirk C. Gorrie passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2013, after a long battle with cancer. Kirk is survived by his wife Margaret Gorrie, son Brian Gorrie (age 22 and an IVC graduate now studying in England), daughter Michele Gorrie (a 17-year-old senior at Northwood), mother Trula Gorrie, and father Clayton Gorrie.
Marie de la Palme was a principal dancer in New York for Alvin Ailey III, Trisler Danscompany, Keith Lee Ballets, and Omega Dance. She taught and choreographed for Jacques d’Amboise’s National Dance Institute, later working on industrials and musicals in Orange County and Las Vegas before focusing on concert choreography, for which she received three Horton Award nominations.
Founded in 1997, the IVC Model United Nations Team competes and wins awards in several conferences each year. The Model United Nations is a world-wide educational enterprise begun more than 60 years ago by American students interested in learning first-hand the processes of international diplomacy. In the United States, more than 60,000 students from sixth grade through graduate school take part in one or more Model United Nations conferences each year.
