Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning, Intersex, Asexual and More (LGBTQIA+) Pride Month is celebrated annually in June to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots and works to achieve equal justice and equal opportunity for queer, trans, nonbinary, and questioning people. In June of 1969, patrons and supporters of the Stonewall Inn in New York City staged an uprising to resist the police harassment and persecution to which LGBTQ Americans were commonly subjected. This uprising marks the beginning of a movement to outlaw discriminatory laws and practices against LGBTQ Americans.
Pride month celebrates the beauty of sexual and gender diversity, breaking the binary of gender expression and identity, and celebrates all love relationships. We advocate for the end of discrimination and violence for queer and trans people and promote dignity, equal rights, and love for our community.
