A Byte Out of Crime: IVC Cybersecurity Superhero Michael Franklin

If you showed Batman the virtual alleyways of the internet, he’d have his hands full fighting villains like credit card crooks, identity thieves and malware hackers. You might say it takes a superhero to battle online crime, and for Michael Franklin, Irvine Valley College was the birth of an origin story.

It all started his senior year of high school, where he and his cybersecurity team turned one friend’s garage into a virtual “Batcave” full of high-tech gear.

Dance is the hidden language of the soul, so says celebrated American dancer Martha Graham. Where words might fail, movement and music can express beauty and joy… and even, in the case of Irvine Valley College student Sabrina Campaña, become a career calling.

“I’ve always been into dance since I was around five,” says Campaña, whose roots are in hip-hop. She started as a business major at the College, but when she saw posters for a dance audition, she couldn’t resist.

IVC Circle K International Wins Awards

​The Irvine Valley College (IVC) Circle K International Club won three awards at the virtual 66th Annual California-Nevada-Hawaii District Convention, which had been scheduled to take place from March 27 to 29 in Riverside. Circle K held sessions via Zoom, which included conducting elections for regional positions as well as streaming the awards session via YouTube Live.

Games like these inspired future game designer Kyle Chansler, and when he discovered Irvine Valley College’s Immersive Game Design program, he knew he’d found his own perfect environment.
