Explore and learn new languages and their cultures. The Languages Department offers courses that enable students to engage in interpersonal communication in American Sign Language (ASL), Chinese, French, Japanese or Spanish. Students will gain cultural insight and a global perspective in addition to the opportunity to attend cultural events and participate in club events and conversational practice.
The ESL/AESL program supports non-native English speakers with English language course work to help them succeed in college, at their jobs, and in the community. In the Adult ESL (AESL), students earn Certificates of Competency by completing a course sequence at the beginning, intermediate, or advanced level.
IVC students taking a language or an ESL/AESL class may seek specialized assistance at the English Language Center, Student Success Center, Writing Center, and the library. Eligibility for service is based on current course enrollment.
