Designated Subjects Career Technical Education (CTE) Teaching Credential

The Preliminary Designated Subjects CTE Teaching Credential allows the holder to teach specific career technical, trade, or vocational courses in grades 12 and below, as well as in adult education classes. 

The Clear Designated Subjects CTE Teaching Credential allows the holder to teach the same courses but also includes teaching English learners through Specially Designed Academic Instruction Delivered in English (SDAIE) in the same settings.

Teacher Preparation Pathway Events

The Teacher Preparation Project hosts several events for the future educators of Irvine Valley College, including information sessions, professional development workshops, and socials. Our events help students learn more about the teaching field, expand their network, and develop their skills. PK-3 Early Childhood Education Instruction Specialist Credential

​This credential authorizes a person to teach young children in preschool through 3rd grade. PK-3 teachers are equipped with knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices for young children and are expected to design, implement, and facilitate learning activities throughout this grade span which engage students according to their developmental levels.

Education Specialist Credential

Students interested in teaching children with special needs should obtain a bachelor’s degree and an Education Specialist Instruction Credential. The Education Specialist Instruction Credential authorizes the holder to teach in the disability area of specialization listed on the credential. The person holding this credential may work with elementary, junior high, or high school students. Specialty areas are listed below.

Multiple Subject Credential

Students interested in teaching at the elementary school level should obtain a bachelor’s degree and a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. The Multiple Subject Teaching Credential authorizes the holder to teach in a “self-contained” classroom, meaning that one teacher teaches all subjects to the same students all day.
