American Sign Language (ASL) Program

Welcome to the IVC ASL Program!

We're glad you have an interest in the American Sign Language (ASL) program here at Irvine Valley College. We are a visual-based and immersive program allowing students to practice the language by interaction using dialogue and storytelling. The language comes with its own rich history and culture. Our professors are native users of the language and has the teaching expertise and technical expertise to maximize learning potential in a variety of settings.

Professor Chen joined Irvine Valley College in 2000. She was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan.

Studying Chinese

About Chinese

The Chinese language (also called 汉语 Hanyu, 中文 Zhongwen, or 华语 Huawen) is a member of the Sino-Tibetan family of languages. About one-fifth of the world speaks some form of Chinese as its native language, making it the most spoken language in the world.

Textbooks

All Chinese courses at IVC are Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC), meaning all required course materials are provided to students at no cost. Materials are posted on each class’s Canvas site, and students have free access to them from Chinese 1 through Chinese 4, and Chinese 21 Introduction to Chinese Culture course. Welcome to the IVC Chinese Program

Chinese is the most spoken language in the world with over one billion people whose first language is Mandarin and whose civilization is one of the oldest in the world, with over three thousand years of history. At Irvine Valley College, while mastering the Chinese language, you will also learn about its rich culture, traditions, geography, civilization, literature and history.
