IVC offers a large and diverse selection of online education classes to hundreds of students each semester. Many of our General Education courses can now be taken online, and new courses are being added to the online program each semester.
Our entire online courses offered are Internet-based using the Canvas as our online learning management systems (LMS). Canvas allows for instructors to place course materials on a password-protected site which only students who are registered for the class can access. The course will become available by the date listed in the Class Schedule, and students will then be able to access the course anytime during the day or night from any computer with an Internet connection.
All courses have a required course-specific orientation. This information is located on the Class Schedule. The course-specific orientation varies according to each course and instructor. To access course-specific online orientation info, click on "Required Online Course Orientation" for All Online Classes on the navigation pane at the upper-left. Then you may navigate to the Class Schedule to access your specific class section with the required course-specific orientation info.
We also offer hybrid courses, which combine traditional on-campus and online instruction. This reduces the amount of time that students actually need to come to campus because much of the class work is done online. The on-campus meeting times for these courses are listed in the class schedule. Please note that a valid parking permit is required on campus 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Many of the classes at IVC, which are not technically online, also Canvas as a supplementary online resource for classroom lessons and activities. For example, instructors may post lectures, handouts, and the course syllabus online, or they may ask you to engage in online discussions or other activities as part of your course homework.
Thank you for your interest in the Online Education program at IVC, and we look forward to helping you achieve your educational goals.
