One of the first tasks I completed during my initial month of employment was to sign up for payroll deduction to establish a monthly contribution to the IVC Foundation. Early in my career, I learned the importance of financially contributing and giving back to the college with a sense of gratitude.
On October 20, the IVC Foundation will host our annual Giving Day to allow our community and friends of IVC to contribute to student scholarships and college programs. Before I encourage you to participate, I want to share some of the many reasons I support the IVC Foundation.
- As previously mentioned, early in my career, the college president instilled in me a sense of responsibility to financially give back as a way to express gratitude. The art of giving reflects a professional commitment to my institution and is my way of saying “thank you” for the honor of serving at IVC.
- In speaking to prospective donors and funding agencies, I learned the value of the percentage of employees that contribute to the college. The amount of the gift is less important than the overall participation rate from our workforce. It demonstrates that our employees believe in the mission of the IVC Foundation to impact the lives of our students.
- Attending and participating in foundation supported programs, including the annual scholarship ceremony, provides ample opportunities to witness first-hand the impact of our financial gifts. A compelling testimony that I commonly hear from student recipients is how an award not only provides financial support but affirms a donor’s belief in their potential to succeed.
- The majority of gifts made receive a partial match from the IVC Foundation. This stretches your gift and increases the impact of your donation. On Giving Day, you will receive an additional match, for every $2 contributed, the Foundation will match it with $1 up to $500 match per account.
- Giving is easy, whether it be an annual contribution, monthly payroll deduction, or supporting fundraisers throughout the year, we are afforded multiple opportunities to support the college’s philanthropic efforts.
- I can designate my gift to programs of choice. This flexibility allows donors to target their donation to programs and activities that are near and dear to our hearts.
I want to thank those who are regular contributors to the IVC Foundation. I can’t think of a more noble investment. If you are still on the “fence” or have not initiated the regular habit of giving, I want to challenge you to identify a reason(s) to give. Remember, the amount is less important than the act of giving.
On October 20, we will once again have a unique opportunity to demonstrate our love and commitment to Irvine Valley College. Please join me in supporting one or more of the many worthwhile programs and scholarships that provide much needed support to IVC students.
Best,
John
