PTK Club Encourages Students to Voice Difficult Experiences Through Art

IVC’s Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Club hosted an “Inclusion and Equity Through Art” event in the SSC quad on December 7 as part of the club’s service project. The event offered a variety of creative outlets such as chalk art, canvas painting, and rock art for students to express challenging experiences, particularly microaggressions. The project team selected the theme of the event to support IVC’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) efforts which is part of the college’s mission.

“At IVC, I learned I could do it,” states the proud engineer.

Before enrolling at IVC, Nikham began her engineering journey at another local community college. Expecting to launch into an unstoppable career, she quickly found the college wasn't a good fit.

From the Desk of the President

It is that time of the year where I marvel at how quickly the calendar year is concluding. It has become my annual ritual to say, “I can’t believe the holidays are already here. How did this year go by so quickly?” Perhaps it is the result of an increased pace that many of us have not had to experience during the past couple of years working and learning from home, or perhaps it is the realization that much remains to be completed.
