New Program Opens Doors to Legal Profession
A new initiative at Irvine Valley College (IVC) is championing diversity in the legal field.
The Pathways to Law School program, which is now underway at IVC, is overseen by June McLaughlin, an IVC professor and director of its American Bar Association (ABA)-approved Paralegal Studies program.
About the Early College Pathway at IVC
Early College Pathway Benefits
- Upon completion of the program, you will earn a high school diploma and an Intersegmental General Education Course (IGETC) Certification, which is 51 transferable credits to the UCs and CSUs
- Many students take additional elective courses to bring their unit total up to 60, allowing them to earn an AA degree from IVC
- Program completers participate in IVC commencement and many are accepted to four-year colleges, including UCs, CSUs, and colleges out of state
- The ability to earn nearly two years of transfera
Early College Pathway at IVC
The Early College Pathway at IVC is a partnership that allows academically qualified students to dual enroll in classes at their local high school and IVC. Since its founding in 2007, the program has flourished, with more than 300 participants and 160 completers.

English Professor Kurt Meyer Celebrated for 20 Years of Service as Phi Theta Kappa Chapter Advisor
Professor of English Kurt Meyer recently received a pin from the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honors Society acknowledging his 20 years of service as IVC’s PTK Chapter Advisor. IVC President John Hernandez and Dean of Liberal Arts Brooke Bui surprised Professor Meyer with the pin last month.
