Cal Grant

Cal Grants are a state funded grant that is available to eligible California residents who complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act Application (CADAA), for AB540 eligible students, by March 2 for the next academic year. Students may qualify on the basis of merit, financial need, and/or vocational program. Funding for the Cal Grant is limited. In addition to completing a financial aid application, students are required to submit a separate form commonly referred to as the Cal Grant GPA Verification Form. Who submits your verification form depends on the number of transferable units you have completed at Irvine Valley College (IVC):

• Students who have completed fewer than 16 transferable units at IVC must have their high school complete a Cal Grant GPA Verification Form and submit it by the filing deadline.
• Students who have completed at least 16 transferable units at IVC do not need to complete a Cal Grant GPA Verification Form, their college GPA automatically submitted before the deadline.

Only Cal Grant B and C may be used at Irvine Valley College, but Cal Grant A may be used for future study if you transfer to a four-year college or university in California. If you missed the March 2nd filing deadline, you may still qualify by meeting the September 2 deadline for community college students only. It is recommended that students set up a WebGrants 4 Students account with the California Student Aid Commission and regularly check on the status of their Cal Grant.

• Students awarded a Cal Grant C can only be paid for vocational courses; no funds will be disbursed for general education courses. Other restrictions may apply. For additional information, please contact the Financial Aid Office.
• Students intending to transfer to a four-year college or university should not use more than 200% of their Cal Grant Award at IVC. In order to reserve potential future grant eligibility, please contact the Financial Aid Office at 949-451-5287.
