IVC Welcomes New Vice President for Student Services

Irvine Valley College welcomed new Vice President for Student Services, Dr. Martha McDonald to the college on August 24. With over 28 years of experience, Dr. McDonald has distinguished herself in leading, managing, and supervising student support programs in higher education. She is a champion for equity and inclusion and has dedicated her entire career to serving and supporting community college students. 

IVC Student Ethan Manafi Takes on Role as Student Trustee

Irvine Valley College student Ethan Manafi assumed the position of Student Trustee for the South Orange County Community College District (SOCCCD) on July 21. Ethan will serve in the Student Trustee role for the 2020-2021 academic year.

Ethan, who is majoring in human biology and society with a minor in gender studies, will serve as Student Trustee to represent the students of both IVC and Saddleback College.

IVC Welcomes New President, Dr. John Hernandez

Irvine Valley College (IVC) welcomes new President, Dr. John Hernandez to the college this month. After a nation-wide, several months long search, Dr. Hernandez, who has been an educator for more than 30 years, takes the helm at IVC on July 30.  His appointment was approved by the South Orange County Community College District (SOCCCD) Board of Trustees in June.

On Monday, July 6, the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) announced modifications to temporary exemptions for nonimmigrant students taking online classes due to the COVID-19 pandemic for the Fall 2020 semester. This message is being carefully reviewed by Irvine Valley College, along with colleges and universities nationwide. Impacted IVC international students are those in the United States who would be taking their IVC classes online in the fall 2020 semester.

But it wasn’t just the musical’s precocious lead that sparked her passion for performing arts. It was the precision, pageantry and movement – the unbridled spirit of it all. It was fascinating, and Abby intended to be a part of it.

IVC Joins #StopHateForProfit Campaign

Irvine Valley College (IVC) has joined a new initiative from the USC Race and Equity Center which brings together leaders from California’s community colleges to address issues related to race and racism. The California Community College Equity Leadership Alliance will use a three-pronged approach to help administrators and faculty leaders learn how to better address the concerns of students and employees of color, who have long cited the persistence of racist policies and attitudes within their institutions.

Imagine trying to read a book full of three-dimensional letters, each one popping from the page in full relief. Now, imagine your mind is a helicopter, circling each and every character, but struggling to perceive the overall picture.

That was high school for IVC student and dyslexia sufferer Colin Carey. It wasn’t that the blades weren’t whirling fast enough – quite the opposite, in fact. Carey was an outside-the-box thinker who would go on to thrive on creative problem-solving in his construction career.
