Languages Department

/node/266

Learn another language, explore new cultures, and expand global knowledge. Irvine Valley College offers courses in five different languages: ASL (Sign), Chinese, French, Japanese, and Spanish. When you study a language with us, you will learn both: language and culture. Our dedicated and experienced faculty will guide you through the process of language learning and cultural understanding, and our extra-curricular opportunities further enhance your global perspective.

Our languages are taught communicatively, using the new language during class. Instructors are skilled in getting the meaning across without using English; this enables you to make quick progress in the new language. In class, your instructor, your classmates, and you participate in activities that promote real life communication. In Chinese, French, Japanese and Spanish, students acquire competence in speaking, listening, reading and writing as well as cultural awareness. In ASL (Sign), students acquire expressive and receptive communicative skills and learn important aspects of Deaf culture.
