Literature courses at IVC are designed to prepare students for further study at four-year institutions, to teach techniques of careful and informed reading, and to enhance students' understanding and therefore enjoyment of literature. These courses introduce the major genres and traditions of literary expression across a broad range of cultures, historical periods and geographical areas. At the same time, the program explores the way that literature has been approached within the professional field of literary study.
The Creative Writing Program offers classes in several areas of writing:
Nathan Cayanan, IVC Writing and ESL instructor, has been selected for DC Comics’ inaugural class of the Milestone Initiative Talent Development Program. Cayanan was selected from hundreds of applicants from across the US and Canada.
The Milestone Initiative was created to provide access and opportunity for Black and diverse storytellers in the field of comics.
IVC English instructor Burlee Vang premiered his latest film, They Live in the Grey, on AMC Networks’ Shudder, and it has received wide acclaim and press. Professor Vang wrote and directed the horror film along with his brother, Abel Vang.
