Departmental Mission Statement

The Department of Political Science strives to further the primary goals of the Irvine Valley College Mission Statement. Completion of political science courses will assist students in meeting their career, transfer and lifelong learning goals as members of a diverse and changing society. The Department of Political Science strives to offer a curriculum of diversity and breadth that prepares students to be astute and keen political observers and actors.

Psychology

Psychology courses at Irvine Valley College provide academic instruction in basic psychological concepts, theories, terminology and research methods, and promote students life skills, personal growth and interpersonal effectiveness.

Career Opportunities

Green jobs have grown thirty percent faster than overall jobs created in California in the last few years. This program is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to place and advance in a wide-range of jobs across industry sectors related to sustainable resource management.

What is Zero Waste?

Zero Waste is about resource efficiency. Ask an engineer to define waste and the answer is "Inefficiency." Ask an environmentalist to define waste and the answer is "Pollution." Ask an economist to define waste and the answer is "Lost Revenue." Our Zero Waste Program trains individuals to work with businesses and communities to analyze their waste stream and create a plan for waste minimization. The ultimate goal: Zero Waste. The triple bottom line: People, Planet, and Profit.

Easy Being Green: IVC Proves Perfect Environment for Change-Minded Sustainability Student

Lauren Heyden always did her best thinking out on the trails. So when it came time to ruminate on a career path, it was only natural that her mind rambled toward environmental sustainability.

Before enrolling at Irvine Valley College, Heyden spent her time backpacking, hiking, and traveling the Sierra Nevadas, and beyond. She was happiest exploring nature, but felt inclined to do more. She wanted to make a difference.
