Registration times are assigned in priority order based on academic standing, completed degree-applicable units, completion of matriculation, and other factors.
If you wish to apply for a change of status, you must do so by following the Residency Reclassification Questionnaire procedure and submit all required documents before the beginning of the quarter in which you plan to enroll. If that deadline is not met, the status change won't take effect until the next term for which you enroll.
If there is any question about residency, the burden is on you to clearly prove both physical presence in California and intent to establish California residence.
Certain nonresidents may qualify for a non-resident tuition exemption. Eligibility criteria are noted below. Students who believe they are eligible for an exemption based on any one of the following criteria should consult the Office of Admissions and Records when they apply:
At the time of the application (or reapplication) for admission, a student’s residency status will be determined based on the answers provided on the application for admission.
Students classified as nonresidents who feel they should be reclassified can do so by filling out the IVC California Residency Reclassification Questionnaire. Ensure you provide all possible documentation available to assist us in deciding with your case. For more information, visit Residency Reclassification.
Students who are verified or authorized as members of the following groups. Active Duty Military and Veterans, Foster Youth and Former Foster Youth, DSPS, EOPS, Athletes, Honors, ASIVC.
Students who are first-time college students. The have never attended college since attending high school, regardless of how long ago they attended high school. Students must have completed all the matriculation steps (orientation, math and English assessment, and advisement) by the designated deadline to qualify.
