IVC President Dr. John Hernandez received the 2026 Excellence in Servant Leadership Award from the California Community Colleges Classified Senate (4CS) during its Annual Classified Leadership Institute in early June. A delegation of 14 IVC classified professionals attended the institute, representing the college and participating in professional development and leadership activities with colleagues from across the state.
The award recognizes Dr. Hernandez’s commitment to service-centered leadership, his longstanding respect for classified professionals, and his dedication to fostering a college culture grounded in compassion, collaboration, and student success. The honor was especially meaningful because he was nominated by the IVC Classified Senate.
Dr. Hernandez also delivered the conference’s opening keynote address, speaking to classified leaders from across California about service, excellence, and the collective responsibility to support students. In his remarks, he reflected on the importance of leading by serving others and recognized the many colleagues who inspire him through their own commitment to service each day.
