IVC is proud to announce that Senior Administrative Assistant Desiree Ortiz has been named a 2026 California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office (CCCCO) Classified Employee of the Year, one of the highest honors awarded to classified professionals within the California Community Colleges system.
Ortiz was one of only six classified employees selected statewide for the distinction, which recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional commitment to Vision 2030, equitable student outcomes, leadership, professionalism, and service to their college communities.
Her statewide recognition follows her selection as Irvine Valley College’s 2026 Classified Employee of the Year. She was subsequently honored by the South Orange County Community College District Board of Trustees and nominated for consideration at the state level.
Established by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors in 2008 and presented annually since 2009, the Classified Employee of the Year Awards celebrate outstanding classified professionals across California’s community colleges. Recipients are nominated by members of their college or district communities, endorsed by their local Board of Trustees, and selected by representatives from the Board of Governors, Consultation Council, and Chancellor’s Office. The awards are supported through a grant from the Foundation for California Community Colleges. Ortiz was formally recognized by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors during its public meeting on May 19 in Sacramento.
Throughout her years of service to Irvine Valley College, Ortiz has distinguished herself through her compassion, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to students, colleagues, and the broader campus community. A strong advocate for classified professionals, she has consistently fostered a welcoming, caring, and student-centered environment while demonstrating exemplary leadership and service.
Her selection reflects not only her individual contributions, but also the values of excellence, equity, and student success that define Irvine Valley College and the California Community Colleges system.
