Senior Administrative Assistant for Technology Services Stefanie Alvarez has been named IVC’s 2023 Classified Employee of the Year! As the first person that many people communicate with when they call IVC, Stefanie treats each person with respect and kindness. She believes in IVC’S mission of equity, inclusion, and access being that she too was an IVC student. She experienced and appreciated what it was like to be a student and receive help on the other end. Being grateful of having the experience of being an IVC student and alum, has led her to help each person feel like they can achieve success here too. She takes the time with each person she helps to make them feel understood and direct them to the services they need. Her knowledge of the campus and campus community is extensive that she helps each student, parent, community member feel included by not only providing them with the best services but making sure they have access to our different departments and more importantly technology services.
Stefanie has partnered with each department and has the pulse on the campus as a whole. Her main passion is not only helping others feel welcomed here at IVC but that they feel the same positivity and care for IVC as she does. She truly believes in the Caring Campus spirit. Stefanie has always been motivated and interested in her job as she has worked in many different positions on campus. This has led her to have extensive knowledge and seek many different learning opportunities which helps her develop innovative and collaborative ideas in each position she has held. Her warm & friendly attitude encourages others to ask questions and act as a go to person in her department. Being that she is in one of the most important departments on campus her willingness to help has helped many students, faculty and staff feel at ease when they are frustrated. She is always committed to high standards of performance and always steps up to work through problems specifically with students.
Stefanie’s knowledge is so vital that during the pandemic she was considered an essential employee and all through the pandemic she was here on campus every day helping each one of us while we were working remotely, making sure we all had the proper tools to work from home. She is an active member on campus and has participated on many hiring committees, shared governance committees, academic senate committees, classified senate committees and CSEA activities. She can always be found on campus many times after hours cheering on the Laser Athletics teams and supporting many academic functions. IVC is a huge part of her life and family. Not only does she give of her time she gives of her resources (money) to give back to many students as she knows what it was like being a student here. She is selfless and reflects that in her LOVE for IVC.
Stefanie has been at IVC for over 18 years. She was a work study student which then led her to want to be a full-time employee. She brings passion, history, experience, and skill to her position and in her membership in the IVC community. She is loved by those who benefit from her work, compassion, dedication to the college. She works hard and is always motivated and productive. She is a true gem and an asset to the IVC family. The students, faculty, and staff are lucky to have her.
