IVC student Erwin Quiroz has been named the winner of the Real College California Logo Redesign contest. The Community College League of California’s Affordability, Food and Housing Access Taskforce will work to incorporate the logo into its upcoming publications, taskforce webpage, Basic Needs Summit webpage, emails and more. Edwin will also receive a $1,000 scholarship.
Erwin’s Digital Media Arts Instructor Gokce Kasikci introduced the logo competition to her DMA 175 Brand Identity class. “It has been an institutional and personal objective to provide experiential learning in the classroom,” says Kasikci. “The Real College California logo competition was one project assigned to all students in the class, with this pedagogical goal in mind. In the class, we brainstormed and critiqued work together, enabling each student to create a unique and effective solution for this design challenge.”
“Erwin's design captured the essence of the Coalition and its mission to provide system wide recommendations addressing students' housing, food and basic needs insecurities,” the Taskforce shared in a press release.
The Affordability, Food & Housing Access Taskforce was established in Spring 2018, by the Chief Executive Officers of the California Community Colleges (CEOCCC). The taskforce was established to provide system-wide recommendations to address housing and food insecurities faced daily by our students.
“As a class, we are happy to see Erwin’s success, both as a personal achievement as well as a vindication of our approach. His design reflects a mature understanding of the organization’s mission and values while tapping into the mindset of the target audience,” Kasikci observes. “This is a great instance where in-class learning is instrumental in solving real-life design problems.”
