Health Sciences

The primary mission of the Department of Health Sciences (HS), School of Life Sciences and Technologies (LST), is to provide a solid foundation for the student who wishes to pursue further study at the baccalaureate level and for those students planning to enter a pre-professional or professional program in health-related field such as nursing, physician assistant, pharmacy, physical therapy, physical therapy assistant, message therapy, nutritional therapy and dietician, occupational therapy, medicine, dentistry, dental assistant, optometry, and veterinary science.

Biological Sciences

The Biology Program is committed to provide students with a wide range of courses reflecting the diverse areas of study and related careers in the biological sciences. Our courses cover topics including cellular, molecular and organismal biology, ecology and evolution, health sciences, biotechnology, and environmental studies. These courses allow students to explore their interests in biology, engage with the scientific method through laboratory and field-based activities,  and learn of the many potential career paths in the field.

Environmental Studies

The School of Life Sciences at Irvine Valley College offers a wide range of courses in the biological sciences as well as courses in environmental studies. Introductory courses focus on theories and concepts in five primary areas: cellular and molecular biology, genetics, evolution, ecology, and whole organism biology. More specialized courses examine extensions of these basic principles as they relate to a variety of specific areas of study, including botany, zoology, human anatomy, human physiology, cellular biology, microbiology, natural history, and marine biology.

Safety Protocols

All Irvine Valley College (IVC) laboratory personnel who work with laboratory chemicals must know and follow the standard operating procedures outlined in this plan. All laboratory operations must be planned and executed in accordance with the standard operating procedures described in this plan. In addition, each laboratory worker is expected to practice safe personal chemical hygiene habits aimed at reducing exposures to potential hazards, to avoid potential accidents, and to ensure the health and safety of those employees working in the laboratories.
