IVC's new center for professional learning, IVC Hub, aims to streamline and support collaborative professional learning that equips all campus constituents with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to meet the evolving needs of IVC’s diverse student body inside and outside the classroom. The Hub will help IVC realize a vision of continuous and inclusive professional learning that is valued, accessible, and focused on the goal of fostering student success and support.

New Faculty Orientation
First-year tenure track faculty will participate in this year-long college orientation program, which counts for their college service and provides them with the tools they need as they begin their careers at IVC. Includes four phases: Getting Started at IVC, Teaching at IVC, Becoming a Part of the College, and Becoming a Leader.

Are you a new (or new-ish) part-time instructor who wants to connect with other part-time faculty and learn more about the IVC campus? Join our Adjunct Ambassador program which pairs new and seasoned part-time faculty to build connections and provide a safe space to ask questions about IVC.

Tech Thursdays
Join IVC Tech Services to learn more about integrating technology into your work at IVC. Workshop topics include AI support, accessibility, Canvas support, and more! Drop-in support will also be provided.
Classified Senate Lunch and Learn
Each fall and spring semester, the Classified Senate Professional Development Committee hosts a Lunch and Learn event that brings classified professionals together to engage in meaningful learning, connect with colleagues, and explore topics that support both professional and personal growth. Presentations are led by campus colleagues or invited guests and may be offered in person, online, or in a hybrid format, depending on the event.

Book Club
The Fall 2025 book club will read and discuss Disability Visibility: First-Person Stories from the Twenty-First Century. This collection of contemporary essays by disabled people contains "original pieces by up-and coming authors like Keah Brown and Haben Girma, blog posts, manifestos, eulogies, Congressional testimonies and beyond..., giving a glimpse into the rich complexity of the disabled experience [and] highlighting the passions talents, and everyday lives of this community. It invites readers to question their own understandings, celebrates and documents disability culture in the now, and looks to a future and the past with hope and love." Participants will receive a copy of the book.

Walking Club
Get some movement, connection, and friendly competition into your day by creating a Walking Club with your colleagues. Walking Clubs of 3-5 IVC employees must register themselves and can earn points by taking a walk of 15-minute (or more) on workdays. The team with the most points wins!

Teaching Squares
Teaching squares are a way to observe other faculty on campus in their classes, learn more about their students’ experience across campus, and earn PD hours. Faculty sign up to be put into cross-disciplinary groups of 4 instructors. They each visit each other’s classes for a 1-hour observation and meet for a “square share” to share something great they saw in each class and something they will take back to their own teaching practice, with a focus on the positive. Inspired by Leeward College.

Inclusive Teaching with CSTP and UDL
In this five-week Community of Practice, participants will engage in Culturally Sustaining Teaching Practices (CSTP) and Universal Design for Learning (UDL). We'll analyze our mindsets, data, and instructional practices to help design more inclusive classrooms.

Join us for a casual, free lunch where students and faculty, classified professionals, and administrators can connect beyond the classroom and office. Each session offers conversation, community-building, and a chance to learn from one another in a relaxed setting. Come meet new people, share experiences, and strengthen the relationships that create a culture of care at IVC.
Science & Snacks
Join your colleagues for an evening of community building, snacks, and Halloween-themed chemistry experiments. There will be fire and maybe a minor explosion. No promises.

Emerging Leaders “We See You!”
Created by IVC’s team at the 2024 Leadership Institute for Tomorrow (LIFT), this event will bring together classified professionals and full- and part-time faculty to build upon their individual strengths to envision their leadership potential. Activities include reflection and collaboration workshops and a panel discussion with IVC and district leaders who will share their leadership journeys. Lunch included! Coming in Spring 2027.

Coming at the end of Spring 2027! The Online Education Task Force and The Hub will be teaming up to offer a Summer Send-Off event to help you enjoy your summer with confidence, knowing you have some great tricks up your sleeve for your return in fall. This laid-back day of PD is designed to give you some ideas to mull over during the summer so that you can apply them to your classes for the fall.
