Tyler Walton
Instructor, Jazz Drums and History of Jazz

Tyler Walton is a professional drummer and percussionist with many years of experience teaching, performing live, and recording in the studio. Mr. Walton earned his Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies Performance at California State University – Fullerton, and his Bachelor of Music degree in Percussion Performance from California State University – Fullerton. Mr. Walton has performed with several of southern California’s most prominent jazz musicians, including Joey Sellers, Dan St. Marseille, and the Bill Cunliffe Big Band featuring Ron Stout and Francisco Torres. Mr. Walton taught at the prestigious Orange County School of the Arts for five years, directing jazz big-bands, jazz small-groups, as well as teaching music theory, jazz improvisation, and rhythm-section masterclasses. Students of Tyler Walton’s have won auditions for such honor groups as the SCSBOA Honor Jazz Band and have received awards for “Outstanding Drummer” at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Festival. Mr. Walton has adjudicated notable jazz festivals in Southern California, including the Fullerton College Jazz Festival and the CSUF Jazz Festival. Mr. Walton currently teaches History of Jazz, History of Rock Music, Music Appreciation, and private drumset and percussion lessons at Irvine Valley College, Fullerton College, Norco College, and California Baptist University.
