Dr. Matthew Tresler is the current Academic Chair of Music at Irvine Valley College and Director of Choral and Vocal Music. In Addition to conducting the IVC Chorale, Dr. Tresler teaches class voice, applied voice, applied music workshop and honors music appreciation courses.

Matt earned a Bachelor’s degree in voice performance from Northern Arizona University, and both the Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts in choral conducting from the University of Miami. He has worked in masterclass with Richard Miller, Helmuth Rilling, Marin Alsop, Maria Guinand, Philip Brunelle, Sigrid Johnson, and Tom Hall among others. Prior to IVC, Matt taught choral music for eight years at Highland High School in Gilbert, Arizona, and worked as a teaching assistant during his time at the University of Miami teaching courses in conducting and conducting choirs. Matt has been an active professional singer since 1995, singing with many of the finest professional choirs in the U.S. including Conspirare, Seraphic Fire, True Concord, Spire, and sang twenty seasons with the Santa Fe Desert Chorale where he was also assistant conductor. He is a member of the Los Angeles Master Chorale and sings regularly with groups in Southern California such as the Bach Collegium San Diego and Tesserae. Matt has performed at thirteen ACDA conventions and the 8th World Symposium on Choral Music in Copenhagen. He has also worked as a studio singer in Los Angeles for more than a dozen film soundtracks. He has sung on three Grammy award-winning classical albums and has sung on the Deutsche Grammophon, Harmonia Mundi, Nonesuch, and Chandos labels among others.

He has served in leadership positions for the American Choral Directors Assn. at the state and regional level, and for the Music Assn. of California Community Colleges.
