Dr. Kookhee Hong is a distinguished performer, educator, and award-winning pianist. After relocating to Los Angeles, she was invited to serve as an adjudicator for numerous festivals, including the Southwestern Youth Music Festival (SYMF) and the Junior Bach Festival in California. Dr. Hong is currently the Director of Junior Chamber Music in the Inland Empire Branch, a board member of the Music Teachers' Association of California, and an adjunct professor at Irvine Valley College.
Her private studio has produced numerous competition winners, including Young Artist Guild awardees, SYMF and Theme Festival prize winners, and MTAC competition participants. Many of her students have been accepted into prestigious conservatories across the United States with scholarships.
Prior to her move to Los Angeles, Dr. Hong was a faculty member at the Manhattan School of Music, where she instructed keyboard requirements, assisted Dr. Solomon Mikowsky in the pre-college and college divisions, and served as a guest teacher for jury preparation. In her New York private studio, she prepared students for entrance exams to major conservatories, organized study guides for music history and theory students, and coached those who successfully gained admission to Doctor of Musical Arts programs at esteemed institutions such as the Manhattan School of Music, the University of Maryland, and the University of Michigan.
Dr. Hong has performed globally alongside various musicians, earning numerous accolades throughout her career. She has given recitals in cities like New York, Seoul, Paris, Valencia, Barcelona, Lanzarote, Las Palmas, Tenerife, La Palma, Merano, and Panama. Her concerto performances include collaborations with the Korean Symphony Orchestra, Panama National Symphony, Carlet Symphony, Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra, Manhattan Symphony Orchestra, and Tenerife Symphony Orchestra.
Among her many awards, Dr. Hong has received the second prize and Public Prize at the Panama International Piano Competition, first prize at the Carlet International Piano Competition, first prize at the Dora Zaslavsky Koch Competition, second prize at the Maria Canals International Competition, second prize at the Prokofiev Concerto Competition, Alicia de Larrocha Spanish Prize at the Andorra International Competition, third prize at the 5 Towns Competition, and first prize at the Edmonton Kiwanis Festival.
Dr. Hong holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts, Professional Studies, Master of Music, and Bachelor of Music degrees from the Manhattan School of Music, where she studied under the guidance of Dr. Solomon Mikowsky. She is currently authoring a book, The Teaching Legacy of Solomon Mikowsky, which will be published in English, Spanish, Korean, and Chinese.
