The Black Student Success Scholars (BSSS) program connects students from the African Diaspora to experience Black Excellence through a safe and welcoming environment. The program will bring an African-Centered education lens to support services, academic counseling, academic and cultural workshops, cultural enriching field trips, transfer planning, and HBCU tours.

Historically Black Colleges & Universities Tour
Spring Break, March 15 - 20, 2026
Student will be attending several historically black colleges, universities (HBCUs), and museums in Louisiana and Texas. Flight, hotel and food are paid for on the trip. * For additional information or questions, please contact Heather Johnson.

*To qualify, students must be in good standing, a currently enrolled student, their college of record IVC, a Real ID or current passport and complete an interview with the chaperones. Interviews will be in November 2025. We will be selecting 15 students and 5 alternates. Students must attend the mandatory meeting for the tour if selected a participant or alternate. 

Porch Talks

Join the Black Student Success Scholars in our monthly meetings! Porch Talks is a safe space for students from the African diaspora to build a sense of connectedness and learn to advocate for themselves while discussing important topics in the Black community.

Meetings will continue in the Fall semester.
