Congratulations Desiree Ortiz on being named IVC’s 2026 Classified Employee of the Year. Desiree is a dedicated classified professional at Irvine Valley College (IVC) with more than 21 years of service across the South Orange County Community College District. Her career spans five departments, including 17 years in Financial Aid and her current role in Police Services, where she continues to champion student success, equity, and a culture of care. In all her roles, Desiree has worked to remove barriers and ensure all students feel supported, valued, and empowered.
A respected and collaborative leader, Desiree previously served as IVC Classified Senate President and now serves as California School Employees Association (CSEA) President for the South Orange County Community College District, where she advocates for classified professionals as essential partners in student success. She has played a key role in advancing IVC’s Caring Campus culture, including helping establish the “warm handoff” practice to connect students with critical support services.
Desiree’s influence extends well beyond her own campus through her statewide involvement on professional resource teams, where she champions equity-minded practices and amplifies the voices of classified professionals. She has mentored staff from eight colleges across California through the 4Cs mentoring program, guiding them in developing and sustaining caring campus initiatives. Her dedication also contributed to the creation of a statewide handbook designed to help community colleges cultivate supportive and inclusive environments.
In addition to her mentorship, Desiree has been featured on several panels, including one hosted by the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office on the importance of representation for marginalized students. She has also appeared on a podcast highlighting the vital role and impact of classified professional leadership in shaping community college culture. Admired for her integrity, empathy, and unwavering commitment, Desiree exemplifies the spirit of service, leadership, and excellence that defines Irvine Valley College.
