COVID-19 Updates & Resources

January 31, 2020

For Immediate Release:
Friday, January 31, 2020

As of 2:15 pm, I am able to update the campus community that the Orange County Health Care Agency (OCHCA) has no new information on the single case of the coronavirus in Orange County. There remains no evidence of any person-to-person transmission within the County of Orange. Unless new information comes forward from OCHCA over the weekend pertaining to IVC, the next update from the college will be Monday morning.

We do want to share some related developments being reported today by official healthcare agencies.

The CDC has just confirmed a seventh case of the Wuhan coronavirus. It is reported to be an adult male in Santa Clara County, CA. This latest case is the third confirmed case of coronavirus in California. There is one other case in Washington state, one in Arizona and two in Illinois. This case has no connection to IVC.

We have also learned that the United States is imposing a travel ban on foreign nationals for those who have been in China in the past 14 days. In addition, the government is issuing a federal quarantine order to the repatriated US citizens at March Air Reserve Base in Riverside County.

Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Alex Azar declared a public health emergency in the United States at a White House press briefing on coronavirus late Friday.

U.S. citizens returning from Hubei province in the previous 14 days will be subject to up to a 14-day quarantine. Foreign nationals, other than immediate family members of U.S. citizens, who have traveled to China in the previous 14 days will be denied entry into the country. The temporary measures take effect Feb. 2 at 5 pm. The HHS briefing further stated that Americans who've traveled to other parts of China in the previous 14 days will be subject to a health screening upon entry and asked to self-quarantine for up to 14 days.

Many airlines have or will be suspending all of their flights to and from China for the foreseeable future.

Please continue to monitor the CDPH and CDC as they provide updates to their websites about the coronavirus. Please also check out the IVC Coronavirus Updates and Information page on our website which includes Frequently Asked Questions, resource information, and posted updates coming directly from my office each day.

We understand there are many implications from this global health crisis and we are here for you.
