The vice presidents and I just got off of a 10:30 am conference call with the Orange County Health Care Agency (OCHCA). The OCHCA is working with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) who are currently on-site at the OCHCA to address public health concerns related to the coronavirus. Specifically, we were on the phone with OCHCA leadership which included Mr. David Souleles, Public Health Director and Dr. Nicole Quick.
Here is what they have confirmed:
- There remains only one case in the County of Orange (a male in his 50s)
- There remain no cases of person-to-person transmission of the Coronavirus within the County
- The OCHCA in conjunction with the CDC monitors all "close contact" case affiliated with exposure to the Coronavirus
- There is no current "close contact" link between the patient who has been hospitalized and an IVC student or employee
Should any of this information change, leadership at OCHCA will notify me directly. In circumstances such as this, it is critically important that faculty, students, and staff be led by experts at the OCHCA and the CDC, and not by social media.
Once again, I am confirming that the IVC Campus is open and safe. I am also confirming that no IVC student or employee has been linked to any "close contact" exposure of the virus. I will post additional information from the OCHCA when it becomes available.
Please remember, it is cold/flu season and normal precautionary measures are always appropriate. So, please wash your hands for a minimum of 20 seconds, if you sneeze or cough use a tissue and discard it after use, and if you are experiencing flu-like symptoms you should stay at home and contact your health provider.
