Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
The opportunity to perform community service while gaining practical experience preparing tax returns is what VITA is all about. This program is sponsored by the IRS and is aimed at individuals who have difficulty affording professional tax preparation. There are two phases to the program. First there are classes to refresh and expand your tax knowledge. These classes are free and provide excellent study and reference materials. The classes will take place on selected Saturdays on the Irvine Valley College Campus during November and December. Second there is the actual tax return preparation under the supervision of tax professionals. The location of this phase is not final yet but it is hoped that this will take place on the IVC Campus as well. Actual tax preparation will be performed in February, March, and April.
