Cultural events and conversational opportunities
The IVC Spanish department offers small conversational groups that meet in the cafeteria at scheduled times throughout the semester. Students and professors meet for an hour of conversation and refreshments in an informal setting. See your instructor for details. There are many opportunities for cultural experiences during the year. Following are some of the community events that students may attend:
- Watch a play in Spanish at the Bilingual Foundation of the Arts and/or the Frida Kahlo Theater in Los Angeles
- Visit an art exhibition or cultural event at the Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach or The Latino Museum of History, Art and Culture in Los Angeles.
- Attend The Latino Family Book Festival in Los Angeles and San Diego
- Attend UCLA's Festival Latino.
- Attend a tango or flamenco show at the following places: Tapas Bar & Grill, Café Sevilla, Fountain Theatre, El Cid Show Restaurant, and The Barclay's New World Flamenco Festival in August.
- Explore cultural offerings at El Centro Cultural de México in Santa Ana.
- Meet Hispanic writers at the Martínez Bookstore and Art Gallery in Santa Ana.
- See a Latin American movie at UCI's Annual Latin American film Festival.
- Visit El Sol Science and Arts Academy of Santa Ana, a Spanish/English dual immersion elementary school.
- Participate in the Círculo de Amigas Service Learning Project
- Enjoy IVC's Noche cultural, a presentation of some aspect of Hispanic culture.
