Dance Rehearsal & Performance - Dance 65

DNCE 65: Sections: 2 units, 1.5 units, 1 units, 0.5 units
Audition: First or Second Friday (4:00pm - 6:30pm) and Saturday (12:30pm - 3:00pm) of every semester in PE160

This course focuses on the various aspects involved in the preparation of dance productions. It invites choreographers and dancers to experience the creative and rehearsal process and to participate in performances at IVC.

Choreographies will be selected to be performed either at an informal showing or at concerts throughout the semester.

Sections: 2 units for choreographers and 0.5 to 1.5 units for dancers depending on the number of pieces they are selected to participate in.

All students are required to participate in the technical and production aspects of the concerts.

Choreographer Participation

If you are interested in participation in Dance 65 as a choreographer, you must have completed a choreography course at IVC or another accredited college.

Fill out a choreographer proposal sheet and present your project at choreographers’ meeting on the first Friday of the semester in room 270 from 4-6pm.

Selected choreographers will audition dancers on the second week-end of the semester: Friday from 4-6:30pm and Saturday from 12:30-3:00pm. After the Saturday audition, choreographers will stay to coordinate the casting with Dance 65 faculty and set up the rehearsal schedule for their dance.

Choreographers will attend a mandatory lighting class early in the semester in the Performing Arts Center.

Choreographers will present their pieces at 3 showings scheduled throughout the semester. Final concert programming will be determined after the second showing.

Pieces not ready for the concert will be shown at the informal choreography presentation at the end of the semester.

All choreographers are required to participate in the technical and production aspects of the concerts.

Those who fail to enroll in DNCE65 (2 units) by the time of the casting audition will not be allowed to choreograph for the semester unless special arrangements are made in advance with the DNCE65 faculty's agreement.

Dancer Participation

If you are interested in dancing in our concert, you must audition on the second week-end of the semester.

FALL 2009 auditions are held in PE 160 at the following dates and times:

Friday, September 4, 2009, from 4:00pm - 6:30pm

Saturdaym September 5, 2009, from 12:30pm -3:00pm

Dancers are offered a wide variety of dance styles and artistic visions to experience and grow from. Come to the auditions ready to dance, with shoes/props you need to show the styles you can do.

Please print the schedule of availability for rehearsals and performances form and fill it out to submit it at the audition.

Choreographers and Danc 65 faculty will select dancers based on ability and availability.

All dancers are required to participate in the technical and production aspects of the concerts.
They are also required to take at least one dance technique/conditioning course at IVC and must be enrolled at the time of the audition.
