Ph.D., Mathematics, University of Houston, 1981 (Topology: Continuum Theory) M.S., Mathematics, University of Houston, 1976 B.S., Mathematics, Auburn University, 1971 Hobbies and Interests: Sailing and Travel After many years of sailboat racing and pleasure sailing, Dottie and her family sailed their 44 foot sailboat, VERITAS, across the Atlantic Ocean in the summer of 2000, from Maine to Nova Scotia to Ireland. That year, they all 4 lived aboard their boat in Paris while she and her husband each did their sabbatical research in Paris. Each summer thereafter, the family has sailed in Europe, the first few years going north from Paris to England, Holland, Denmark, Sweden and then Norway. In the interim years, they have sailed the North Sea, the Irish Sea, the Baltic Sea, the English Channel, the North Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea. In 2003, the family reached the northern most part of their journey, arriving in the Lofoten Islands of Norway - north of the Arctic Circle. Since then, stops have included the Shetland Islands, Scotland, Ireland, England, the Scilly Isles, the Channel Islands, coasts of France, Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar, and Morocco. In summer 2007 their trip began in Barcelona, Spain and took them to Tunisia, Sicily, the Aeolian Islands (including Stromboli), Italy, Sardinia, Corsica and back to Barcelona. Summer 2008 plans include the Côte d'Azur of southern France, followed by the transporting of VERITAS by ship to Newport, Rhode Island. They will sail to Maine, bringing them full-circle to their initial point of departure eight years ago.
