The Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges notified Irvine Valley College (IVC) on Friday that the college’s accreditation has been reaffirmed.

“It is wonderful to see the results of strong collaboration between our Colleges and our District,” said IVC President Dr. Glenn R. Roquemore. “An unprecedented number of commendations reflects our passion for student success, which begins with our Board of Trustees and is embodied by our students, faculty, staff, and administration.”

The ACCJC praised IVC with seven commendations, as well as three for the South Orange County Community College District (SOCCCD). One such commendation was IVC’s supportive, family-like “ohana” environment. The report applauds IVC for the campus community’s “passion to maximize the human capacity in the lives of its students.”

“We strive to make IVC an excellent place for learning for all students. Being recognized for the IVC spirit of ohana is indeed a true reflection of who we are,” said President Roquemore.

Also included in IVC’s commendations were the college’s robust Five Year Technology Plan; its transparent resource allocation process; its informative and concise student handbook; its Decision Making Manual, developed through a collaborative process with the SOCCCD; successful efforts in guiding students to transfer to the university and complete their education goals; and leadership and engagement of students, faculty, classified staff, and administrators.

The Evaluation Team specifically commended President Roquemore “for his leadership in realizing a campus climate of trust, collaboration, diversity, engagement, and transparency.”

There were two recommendations made by the ACCJC. The first was that IVC develop a college-wide process to ensure consistent documentation and monitoring of the assessment of student learning outcomes. The second recommendation was for the District to develop an electronic system for tracking employee evaluations.

The college will submit a follow‐up report on these matters to the commission in October 2018.
