FIFTH ANNUAL IRVINE VALLEY COLLEGE JAZZ PICNIC, SATURDAY, MAY 10 ON THE LAWN AT IVC
IRVINE, CA – The 5th Annual Irvine Valley College Jazz Picnic will be presented on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 4: 30 p.m. on the Arts Plaza, which is the lawn in front of the brand new IVC Performing Arts Center, off the Jeffrey Road entrance to the college located at 5500 Irvine Center Drive, Irvine, 92618. This year’s picnic will feature “A Celebration of Modern Jazz" and will include modern music by Cedar Walton, Thad Jones, Horace Silver, and Ed Peffer.
The first half of the concert will feature the Bruce Babad Quartet and then showcase the IVC Jazz Ensemble for the second half. The Jazz Ensemble will be featuring three vocalists - Johnnie Maurer, Shannon Lee Blas, and Hali Gaskins. Some of the pieces the IVC Jazz Ensemble will perform will include "Bolivia" by Cedar Walton, "Tow Away Zone" By Thad Jones, "Sister Sadie" by Horace Silver, and "Bahama Mama Samba” by Ed Peffer.
The two-hour concert is free to the public. An opportunity drawing in support of the IVC Instrumental Jazz Fund, sponsored by the IVC Foundation, will also be held. Bring the family and friends, a blanket or lawn chair and a picnic basket and enjoy an afternoon of great jazz. Parking for the event will be $2.
