Irvine Valley College Names Four New
Foundation Board Members
IRVINE, CA – The Irvine Valley College Foundation has unanimously elected four new members to its Board of Governors. The IVC Foundation is committed to raising funds and friends in support of the current and future students of Irvine Valley College.
Robert Chow, M.D. is the Founder of StemCyte, a multi-national umbilical cord blood stem cell therapeutic product company with the largest and most ethnically diverse commercial donor stem cell bank in the world. According to Deloitte and Touche, LLP, in southern California for 2007, StemCyte was the fastest growing company in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical devices and healthcare space in terms of rate of revenue growth for the past 5 years. Dr. Chow is a recipient of numerous awards and honors, and chaired the 21st annual Astounding Inventions competition. Dr. Chow received his Doctor of Medicine and Masters Degrees from Harvard Medical School and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rutgers University where he was a Henry Rutgers Scholar with Distinction.

Sandi Clark graduated with a degree in History and English from the University of Southern California. She also has a Master’s degree in Education from USC. She received her Administrative Credential from Cal State Long Beach and taught at Irvine High when it was in its infancy. Currently, Sandi is a real estate consultant and marketing specialist for First Team Real Estate. She has received several awards for excellence in her profession and has been recognized as a Hall of Fame agent by First Team. She is the proud mother of two and the grandmother of four. Sandi has always valued education and is honored to be a part of the Irvine Valley College Foundation.

Richard Nelson, Ph.D. is CEO of Micromachines LLC, a high-tech provider of microdevices and consulting services. Previously, he worked as a manager and executive in the defense industry. He is President of the Foothill Communities Association, which represents 10,000 households in the unincorporated area known as North Tustin. Dr. Nelson is also an Adjunct Professor at University of California, Irvine. He has a Ph. D. in physics from Michigan State University and an undergraduate degree in mathematics.

William Woollett, Jr. has a long and distinguished history with Irvine and Orange County. He was hired as the City of Irvine's first employee and served as its first city manager from 1972 to 1989. He became CEO of the Transportation Corridor Agencies (TCA) in 1989 and later received the organization's 2001 Visionary Award for his dedication to Orange County's innovative 51-mile public toll road system. In 1999, he tried to retire, but was called to serve as the first city manager of Aliso Viejo. In September 2004, he returned to TCA as interim CEO and that same year, one of Irvine’s most beautiful facilities was named after him, the $13.5 million William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center. Now that he is finally enjoying retirement, Bill is doing his best to follow his own advice: “Don’t reduce your activity level.”

Last year, the Irvine Valley College Foundation awarded more than $210,000 in scholarships. Students received scholarships for excellence in academics, distinguished community service and financial need.
