2008 PSCFA SPRING CHAMPIONSHIPS

     IRVINE, CA— On February 22-24, the Irvine Valley College Speech and Debate Team attended the 2008 Pacific Southwest Collegiate Forensics Association “Chrystal Watson” Spring Championships.   It was held at LA Valley College. There were a total of 47 schools, 833 Individual Speaking Events, and 126 debate teams entered at this regional tournament.

     The IVC Forensics Team took a total of seven students to the event.  There were several awards given to members of the team. Key awards include Natalie Bui’s recognition as the Top Speaker in Junior Parliamentary Debate.  In addition, two members were awarded to the 2008 PSCFA All-Academic Team. Such students must have competed in at least 3 tournaments and also have a total cumulative GPA of at least 3.75 or above. Tiffany Chow and Toyo Chen were awarded with this honor.

     “This was a tough tournament for all of us. This is our third tournament in the month of February.  It’s going to get tougher.  Competition is fierce and each day we know that we have to continue to stay focus as we get ready for our State Championships and National Tournaments,” said Director of Forensics Edwin Tiongson.

     Forensics Coach Tony Damico said, “The IVC Forensics Lasers are on the rise.”  Other Forensics Coach Shaunte Caraballo, also stated, “This team is a joy to work with. I look forward to seeing what will happen at the State tournament.”  The IVC Forensics’ Team’s next tournament will be the California Community College Forensics Association’s State Championships held in Concord, CA on March 12^th-16^th.
