IVC Forensics Takes 5th Place at Inaugural Concordia Invitational
IRVINE, CA – On October 6-7, the Irvine Valley College Speech and Debate Team earned a 5th place award in overall sweepstakes among all community colleges. There were a total of 19 colleges and universities ranging from University of the Pacific, Arizona State University, Moorpark College, and Orange Coast College. IVC Forensics participated in seven events until the elimination rounds. Furthermore, IVC Forensics had eight students recognized within the top 20 speakers in their perspective divisions of Parliamentary Debate.
“This was a great showing for the squad. We’re in the process of defining ourselves as a team. Our returning leadership has stepped up to the challenge of teaching new members of the team how to debate and to compete in the events. New coaches have embraced the task of getting new events up and running. With a strong returning core of students and a group of new ones, we believe that we’re on pace to place well at the end of the season,” said Director of Forensics, Edwin Tiongson.
The IVC Speech and Debate Team’s next tournament will be the California Double-Up held at Biola University on Oct. 19-21. For more information about the IVC Speech and Debate Team, please contact Edwin Tiongson at etiongson@ivc.edu or 949-451-5346.
