IVC Art Gallery Presents First Fall Show
August 15, 2007
The Irvine Valley College Art Gallery presents its first show of the fall 2007-2008 season, Magnificent Obsession, New Work by Douglas Cason. Doug Cason is a Houston-based artist; this work represents his first solo show on the West Coast. Through aesthetically pleasing imagery and meticulously crafted false artifacts Cason seeks to transform the gallery space into a fictional accounting of a manufactured character, a historian. With this work Cason engages in challenging the idea of Manifest Destiny and asks the viewer to examine the convention of history itself. Doug Cason is a MFA Graduate of the University of Houston, and he currently exhibits nationwide, while teaching in Houston, TX. The show will run through October 5, 2007.
