IVC Launches www.ivcperformingarts.org
IRVINE, CA – Officials from Irvine Valley College (IVC) today unveiled a new website, www.ivcperformingarts.org to provide students, faculty, and the public with the latest information regarding the opening of the college’s state-of-the art $34.76 million Performing Arts Center slated to open its doors this fall.
According to Dr. Karima Benremouga, dean, humanities and fine arts, “We envision that this website will serve not only as a valuable connection to the dance, music, and theatre programs offered by the college, but that it will also be a portal which will allow our audiences to begin to experience our beautiful new performing arts venue.”
Visitors who explore www.ivcperformingarts.org, will find information about IVC’s fine arts programs, as well as links to specific area of interest including sections dedicated to ways the public can support the project and naming rights for the venue. Dr. Benremouga adds, “The website is also the first place patrons should go to learn about the mission and vision of the new theatre.”
At the physical heart of the venue will be a 400-seat main theatre with a single-level balcony that wraps around an orchestra pit, creating a close audience experience. The orchestra pit, which is capable of rising to the same level as the proscenium stage, will accommodate large performances of all kinds. The studio theatre will provide a more intimate setting for plays and small concerts, with seating for 200. The venue also will include an additional small music hall, dressing rooms, costume shop, design scene shop, green room, box office, design lab and music lab.
In the future, many areas of the venue will be available for rental. The theatre will be available to dance, music, theatre groups, civic groups, and other educational and community organizations seeking venues of this size.
“The college is proud that the venue will not only be a centerpiece for IVC’s dance, music, and theatre departments, but it will also provide the community with a convenient and user-friendly venue to host visiting artists and feature performances. The Performing Arts Center will be fully accessible to persons with disabilities, including elevator service from the orchestra pit to the balcony, as well as to an upper technical gallery,” said Dr. Benremouga.
While $32 million in funding for the project has been provided by the state of California and the South Orange County Community College District, the college is raising the remaining $2.76 million from community partners.
