Congratulations Class of 2007

     On Friday, May 18, Irvine Valley College (IVC) held its 22nd annual commencement ceremony for the class of 2007. Leading the procession of students into the ceremony area were Full-time Teacher of the Year Richard Zucker and Part-time Emeritus Teacher of the Year, Donna Hanna Chase. Unable to attend was Part-time Teacher of the Year, Richard Schank.
     The keynote speaker was Dr. John Spencer Ellis, IVC alumnus and CEO of the National Exercise & Sport Trainers Association, the Spencer Institute for Life Coaching and the Get America Fit Foundation. The student speaker was Alexandra Shaygan, who was introduced by SOCCCD Student Trustee Elizabeth Kelly.
     IVC awarded 429 degrees to students whose heritages included Middle Eastern, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Filipino, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Hispanic, African, American Indian, and many others. This year's oldest graduate was 60 years old. And, the youngest graduate was 16 years of age. Among the 429 graduates, 246 were women, and 183 were men. IVC conferred 364 Associate of Arts Degrees; 65 Associate of Science Degrees; and 81 Certificates of Achievement.
Among IVC’s graduates 102 were honor students; 57 graduated cum laude with an average of 3.5-3.74; 33 graduated magna cum laude with a grade point average of 3.74-3.99 and 12 graduated summa cum laude with a grade point average of 4.0.
     Since most IVC graduates transfer to a four year institution, most degrees are in university studies. However, IVC also had many students who obtained associate degrees in fields as diverse as accounting, art, biology, computer information science, mathematics, music, real estate, and Spanish.
     Irvine Valley College was recently recognized as “Orange County’s #1 Transfer-rate College” and ranked #7 among all California community colleges. With over 60 exciting programs to choose from, Irvine Valley College offers its students the preparation they will need to transfer to a four-year college or university of their choice.
