Irvine Valley College Names

2007 Alumnus of the Year Award

IRVINE, CA – On Wednesday, May 30, the Irvine Valley College Foundation will recognize Irvine City Manager Sean Joyce as its Alumnus of the Year. In addition, the college will bestow honorary degrees to three Orange County residents Cecilia Goodman, Wing Lam, and Carol Tagayun. The presentation of these honors will be made at a private ceremony from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the law offices of Best Best & Krieger LLP, 5 Park Plaza, Suite 1500, Irvine, CA 92614.

“Irvine Valley College (IVC) is proud to have the opportunity to celebrate a distinguished alumnus who represents what IVC is all about. After graduating from Irvine High School, Sean attended Irvine Valley College, from here, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the California State University, Fullerton, as well as a Master of Public Administration degree. Today, I know Sean’s position as the Irvine City Manager is quite a demanding role, and we at Irvine Valley College salute him in all his accomplishments,” said Dr. Glenn Roquemore, President of Irvine Valley College.

“The foundation is also presenting honorary degrees to three very special individuals in recognition of their outstanding service to the college,” said Foundation Director Al Tello.

Cecilia Goodman is the incoming chairman of the Irvine Valley College Foundation, and she is past president and board member of Charter 100, a philanthropic women’s community organization that has donated over $100,000 to low-income, single-parent students at Irvine Valley College.

Wing Lam, founder of Wahoo’s Fish Taco, was the keynote speaker at IVC’s graduation ceremony last year. He served as Honorary Tournament Chairman of the 11th Annual Irvine Valley College Foundation Golf Tournament, which raised nearly $50,000 for student scholarships and golf programs.

Carol Tagayun is past chairman of the Irvine Valley College Foundation and has played a key role in the Foundation’s fundraising success. She recently presented a $10,000 check from AT&T to Irvine Valley College.

Irvine Valley College was recently recognized as “Orange County’s #1 Transfer-rate College” and ranked #7 among all California community colleges. With over 60 exciting programs to choose from, Irvine Valley College offers its students the preparation they will need to transfer to a four-year college or university of their choice.
