Irvine Valley College Commencement to
Feature Dr. John Spencer Ellis,
Nationally Recognized Fitness Specialist
IRVINE, CA – On Friday, May 18 at 4 p.m., Irvine Valley College (IVC) will hold its commencement ceremony for the class of 2007. This year’s commencement speaker is Dr. John Spencer Ellis who graduated from IVC’s Physical Education/Fitness Specialist program in 1992. Since that time, Ellis has dedicated his life to helping people get fit and lead healthier lives.
Each week, over one million people around the world enjoy a fitness program developed by Ellis. He is the CEO of the National Exercise & Sports Trainers Association, the Spencer Institute for Life Coaching and the Get America Fit Foundation. He created Adventure Boot Camp, the largest fitness boot camp program in the world. He hosts The Fit Show and The OC Body TV show, and The Spencer Power Hour radio program. He has earned a 2nd degree black belt in kung-fu and completed the Ironman triathlon. Ellis created fitness programs used by Cirque du Soleil and the U.S. Secret Service, and consults the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championships). He went on to earn degrees in business, health science, marketing and education.
In addition to Ellis, IVC will also feature student speaker Alexandra Elena Shaygan. While studying at IVC, Ms. Shaygan was involved with the Lariat. She was a copy editor and reporter during fall 2005, news editor in spring 2006, managing editor fall 2006, and columnist spring 2007. In addition, she helped bring Lariat coverage to IVC in the fall 2005. Growing up in Irvine with her parents, and a younger brother and sister, Ms. Shaygan has always taken an interest in politics, both national and international. She plans to transfer to San Diego State University as a junior, and her future plans include studying at UC Berkeley for a master’s degree in Rhetoric, and eventually attending law school to practice media law.
Irvine Valley College is currently enrolling students for summer 2007. Summer session dates to remember include: 12-week classes May 21-August 12; 6-week classes May 21-June 30, July 2-August 12; 8-week classes May 21-July 14, June 18-August 12.
